I find it interesting. My parents were out of Canada for 4 months. They came back to all kinds of crazy news about Trump and annexation. They were blissfully unaware for a few weeks. At least the severity. Within a week, they decided to vote Carney. They didn't vote Liberal in 2021. It's amazing to see how people discovering there's an election and seeing the main issue react.
He literally said he wants to reduce our dependency on the US by building a pipeline through eastern Canada. He spoke of reducing the trade barriers between provinces to further reduce this dependency on the U.S. Their entire rally is full of Canada first signs.

So where do you get the info he’s against all this?

PP does not want to build a pipeline to the Atlantic. He wants to create "the environment" where the private sector will build the pipeline.

The private sector is not going to build that pipeline. Same thing with Trumps chants in the US of "Drill baby Drill", the oil companies are not going to put money into exploration until oil is at $80/barrel.

Now if the Conservatives said they were going to setup a crown corporation to build it. Then yes we are talking about something without that it is a nothing promise.

As for reducing trade barriers. The provinces have committed to doing that by July 1st. The Liberals has been meeting with the provinces helping to move that forward. Again a nothing promise.

The Trump Administration has eliminated DEI and civil rights in a matter of weeks. It looks decades for minority groups to fight for civil rights. Many were murdered in the struggle. In America, it is not illegal to fire someone for being Black, Muslim, female, or homosexual, or people with disabilities.

For better or for worse, we must protect Canadian civil rights.

I think in the US many of those things are left up to individual states, that's a different kind of distinction. Yes, we should protect the rights of minorities, but it should not cost our economy by the neglect of things like defense, security, and sovereignty. We can't protect rights if we don't have a country or the means to look after basics. These things should not be mutually exclusive, but I feel Canada has been taking our status in the world and our sovereignty for granted for a long time, focusing on some things at the expense of others.

I am not sure what you are saying. In the Constitution, all Canadians are protected from racial discrimination. It's been proven that when people feel protected, productivity increases. As the one saying goes, a happy worker, is a productive worker.

Giving a fair playing field to all, will be beneficial for defence, security, and sovereignty, as more of us will be willing to defend Canada. We have seen first hand in the United States, what a system that discriminates against certain groups can lead to- civil unrest, higher crime, and poverty, all of which undermine sovereignty.

You did not say anything of the sort. Hecate must have misread your post.

There are so many double standards in this country depending on your politics.

Yves Blanchet was asked today about preparing for a 3rd referendum(I guess you just keep trying until you get the result you want?) and he basically said "Yeah I've been meeting with foreign diplomats multiple times a week for past few years to prepare them for what it would mean" lol ok....but Alberta is the problem on this.

Under the current political situation in North America, one wonders if Blanchet is batshit insane. Support for Quebec sovereignty is at its lowest levels in my lifetime, due to the obvious- the annexation threats. Most Quebecois are well aware that if Trump did annex Canada, French Canadians would suffer the most, since Trump would want to erase the French culture and language.

The irony in that statement, is it will backfire and help the Liberals, considering many will view him as out of touch. And yes, Alberta IS the problem. At least their Government is, by siding with the Trump Administration, over the interests of Albertans (80% want to remain in Canada).

Your saying my assumptions are in-correct?

I am assuming no company wants to build a pipeline from Alberta to eastern Canada. TC Energy, the people that once proposed this have publicly stated they have no interest. No other company has come out saying they are interested in building it.

I think my assumption is safe.

The Conservatives wanting to have government build it. I am assuming that is not going to happen. Have the modern conservatives ever come out in support of government project like this? No. I think I am safe in that conclusion.

That assumption looks safe as well.

It's not an assumption that Poilievre wants private industry to build the pipeline, it's a fact.

And TC Energy have gone beyond having no interest in building a new pipeline, they sold off their oil pipeline division last year.

Hence the problem. The CPC seems to look at Alberta, and seem to want to appeal to them, which makes absolutely no sense, considering a group of CPC campaigners can go into rural Alberta, and set people's farms on fire, and they would still vote them in.

They are taking an absolute bloodbath in Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada. They are making no effort to appeal to the people of Eastern Canada, and it's going to cost them the election. Knowing the CPC, they will blame "those Eastern bastards" for the election loss.

Not saying your friend is incorrect, but demonising the "DEI" programs is not the "win" you make it out to be. For most of North American history, DEI did not exist. White European men were chosen over women, minorities, and others, simply because most business leaders belonged to an "old boys club."

It was not until the 1960s when things started to change. There has been so much progress to enact laws protecting people based on race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, etc. so they cannot be discriminated against in the workforce.

America is rolling back civil rights, so it will be like the 1950s all over again, when women, minorities, gays, and disabled people will be denied employment and it will be perfectly legal. For every example you come up with where DEI is "wrong," I can probably find 10,000 examples of where a glass ceiling was in place, to prevent anyone but older White males from climbing on top of the corporate ladder.

Looks like the NDP flipped a seat in Manitoba from the CPC.

Are they though? CBC executives get significantly lower salaries and bonuses than their private counterparts. It's easy to point fingers but the reality is that compensation needs to be at least somewhat competitive with the private sector or nobody will want to work there. If the same job pays 5x as much at Bell or Rogers, why would you want to take a pay cut at the CBC?

Conservative American owned media outlets are of course leading the charge on criticizing CBC bonuses. The same is happening in other countries. Their agenda is obvious.

Keep trying? The 2nd was 15 years after the first, and it's been almost 30 years now and counting since the 2nd. Doesn't seem like they are trying at all.

Liberal lead in the new Mainstreet is down to below 2 points and continues to fall.

New Aabacus Data has Libs and Cons tied at 38% each.

4 more weeks of bleeding for the Libs to go. We aren't going to win

Donald Trump is expected to put tariffs on Canada this week. That will only help the Liberals.
