As a Jew and grandson of a Holocaust survivor, I'll just note I have no issue with folks comparing the US administration to Nazism. Their biggest spokesperson did the nazi salute at the inauguration and there was quite literally zero pushback from the party. Afterwards Bannon did it at their convention and again - no pushback from republicans. From their policies to propaganda, everything coming out of the US government these days would undoubtedly get the thumbs up by those Fascists for the 30s.

Musk regularly denies the existence of the holocaust, reposts neo nazi material on his platform and blames jews for things all the time.

We can't tip toe around this anymore. One of the key successes to any facist movement is a populace who is worried to say anything.

Define "far-right" Trump is an early 2000s democrat and I find it funny that people don't realize that

Just 7 days ago he reposted and amplified a tweet that said Hitler didn't murder millions of people public sector workers did.

His amplification of this type of content is extremely well documented. This is one example of many.

Denial is a very, very deep river.................

Anyway, I am not going to post on this topic further in this section. I will continue to contribute (vigorously) in the Canada section.

Is this a compelling argument?

Do you assess other things in your life this way?

What do you think is more relevant in regards to Trumps character in 2025.....remarks from the early 2000's or what we've seen from our eyes and ears in his last 8 years in politics?

When Trump in 2025 says news stations criticizing him should be "illegal" do you go searching for more sane comments he made in 2005 to negate such a shameful comment?

Wouldn't a better exercise be to consider how you might feel if Kamala Harris was president and declared fox news to be "illegal"?

If I have to define far-right for you, you probably shouldn't be questioning people's IQ.

He was also a Republican 1987–1999. What's your point? It's his current policies and beliefs we're talking about.

We're all entitled to our opinions, but I don't have any patience for people carrying water for Nazis and their ilk. "National Socialism means they were left wing" is absolute horseshit. Take that crap back to X or Truth Social where it belongs.

Indeed, one of the reasons I enjoy this forum is because it's one of the only places left on the internet not exposed to algorithm and clickbait. I can get a diverse group of opinions without all the partisan bs.

I was completely shocked to see such drivel on a skyscraper page.

Its more or less just using partisan language that comes out of the CPC campaign. Its the type of language that keeps me mostly not wanting to talk about politics as everyone is stuck in their information bubble.

We are at a rough time right now, its scary not knowing what the next 6 months looks like let alone even what does the next month look like (trump wants to go further on tariffs not lighter. I am personally finding it emotionally draining having to hear about what steps Trump takes everyday furthering our former ally into facism. 6 months ago I never had to ask myself what would I do with me and my family if americans invaded Canada. Now I don't go a day without wondering if I should start making that plan.

We need a leader who is willing to work with others, who will put partisanship and ideology aside to forge trade and defense alliances. Carney has correctly prioritized visits to the UK and France as his first duties. For me personally I was relieved to see this

We need big and creative ideas on how to propel the country forward in the next 10 years economically. Pierre Poillevre has done absolutely nothing to show me he is capable of this. Since the announcement of the carbon tax removal he has just doubled down on "carbon tax carney" and has some muddied message about it being a fake out. He has not ever seemed like a serious individual to me. He is a politician built solely to be an attack dog against Trudeau, that worked while Trudeau and the liberals were deeply unpopular but now he needs to pivot and he just cant help himself.

He talked about securing the border in the north but didn't meet with the premier of the territory, unlike Carney. Carney has a calmness and intelligence about him that I would trust in a negotiation. Poilievre on the other hand seems like someone who would either blow up in a negotiation or completely fold given he clearly admires Trumps style of populism.

Are the liberals at fault for much of the issues in this country in relation to housing GDP per capita etc.? Absolutely they have been in power for a long time and they should own a good chunk of that. Is Mark Carney a perfect candidate? Of course not, I've never seen a candidate that didn't have flaws and I don't idolize politicians. But he's competent, has seen and worked through multiple crisis, has all of the right contacts and demeanor to help form new global partnerships.

I understand that perhaps this board is abit more conservative leaning and it might be controversial to say but I value a strong social safety net and I feel it will be more important than ever to have a leader who leans more towards having one than not. I've worked full time for almost 20 years, but this is the first time I've ever worried about losing my job due to something out of my control. We can be a country that has both a strong social safety net and a strong economy if we make better decisions.
Its funny because i feel this board is heavily left leaning as evidenced by the intended vote poll on the Canada page.

Carney himself might not be as bad as Trudeau but what turns me off from him is the people he is surrounding himself with. Marco Mendocino is a complete buffoon and he is now Carneys CoS. Steven Guilbault is a domestic terrorist and does not belong in any political atmosphere. The anti gun nut from Poly is now running for Carney. Just a few examples. The point is, Carney is surrounding himself with the same old crew from Trudeaus clan so how can anyone believe things will be different?

I get tired of Pierre’s schtick too sometimes but i dont for a second believe he is incapable of leading this country to better things. Filtering through BS is required when listening to any politician speak.

The situation south of us is deteriorating quickly and i want someone that will not roll over instead of standing up for all of Canada. I just dont know that Carney is the guy.

Left leaning, right leaning, either is ok with me. It's the extreme that gets me worried. Democracy works when there is compromise. Seems to be little of that lately.

The problem is Pierre’s "schtick" and "BS" that we have to filter through uses similar dividing language as Trump. It doesn't give me any indication of someone that will stand up for all of Canada. His latest commercial still uses phrases like "defeat the woke agenda". Is this really something a Canadian PM should be focused on? Whether you are left or right, that is the language of a divider and conspiracy theorist. IMO he is the last thing Canada needs right now.

This is PP's biggest problem. His rhetoric is decidedly Trumpian. Guilt by association. He just needs to stop right now and vigorously denounce Trump for the fascist wannabe dictator that he is. Then people may take him seriously. Otherwise, given the current geopolitical conflict in North America, things could go very badly for the Conservative Party. You do not want to be associated with Trump.

He can't stop because this is who he has been his entire political career. When the polls were different it was likely just that people didn't really know who he was, or they didn't care because he was railing against someone they wanted out.

He seems incapable of a human relatable moment, perhaps because his entire career has been spent in politics and its the only world that he knows. When people tell you who they are we should believe them. You are going to see some really nasty stuff from the rebel news, juno news, western standard right wing media machine in the election, and because it aligns with his brand its only going to drag him down further, and its entirely him and his campaigns fault. Rather than distance themselves with these folks he surrounds himself with them instead.
