Great night time Vancouver photos Architype! Love the indigenous art on the two story building. Sometimes we don’t fully appreciate this aspect of Canadian cities and how it makes us unique from most other Western nations. People complain about Canadian cities being dull, lacking culture, etc. compared to European nations but indigenous art, architecture, totems, etc. are elite.

Victoria photo from Flickr - my favourite element is not the looming Mount Baker, but the surrounding mountains to the right in this picture. Jagged, ice and snow covered - visually they appear to be emerging from not only the curvature of the earth but also the ocean and contrasting against the serenity of Victoria in the foreground.

Wow what an amazing photo. Views of Mt. Baker aren't new for me, I'm raised in Vancouver so it's not a novelty (I can see it from my office in Surrey Panorama lol). But it's the way the rest of the photo is captured, and that contrast, spectacular. Honestly, the best pics of Victoria and best job at selling the beauty of the area is on this forum, no exagerration. Tourism Victoria should be monitoring this thread for real, many of the photos posted here are breathtaking, and show 1000x more than anything I've seen official pages post.

Zahav, I agree - the official tourism page is focused on activities, attractions, etc, etc. but the images are small and part of the information being shared. Ok, that’s makes sense, but I wish they had a ‘wallpaper’ section, or high res free version of photos that media, travel publications and the general public could access. To me at least, it’s great images of cities that ultimately motivate me to visit more than reading descriptions or information. I’ll check that out after I’m motivated by the image.

Anyways, a decent one by the Downtown Victoria Business Association on Facebook showing the recent addition of a large Canadian flag over the entrance of the Parliament Buildings.

These sub pics are amazing!

Mt. Ararat is quite amazing, but quite sad too... since it's the symbol of the Armenian nation, but the mountain is now entirely in Turkish territory. It is said to be where Noah's Ark ended up after the great flood... and it is depicted as such on the Armenian Coat of Arms.

Armenia is landlocked, but it does have some amazing lakes. I believe this is a smaller mountain chain, not Ararat seen in the beckground of Lake Sevan, Armenia's biggest lake.

This view of Ararat from Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, is nothing short of spectacular... but still quite sad, because they are reminded everyday that the symbol of their nation was stolen from the by the country that committed mass genocide against their ancestors. Even more haunting is the view of Ani, the medieval raised city and former capital of Armenia left in ruins, which just like Mt. Ararat is located just on the other side of the closed border between Armenian and Turkey.

Envision Saint John - thanks for the links, now that I read it out loud, of course I’ve heard of Mount Ararat, funny when I just read the word without pronunciation it didn’t click. But I did click on those links and learned a bunch more, fascinating and sad history for sure. Definitely must feel like a kick in the gut seeing your mountain sitting in another country…

Rico - great pics as always. My favourite(s) are the twisted bike in snow, lol. Looks like a purposeful sculpture. Assuming that was a result of snow plow damage?
