O Canada! Corus FM Radio stations to play exclusively Canadian music March 1

With anticipated tariffs dominating the conversation, on Saturday, March 1, Corus’s FM stations will show their solidarity and support of the country by celebrating all things Canadian, playing the best of Canada’s musical talent across various genres.



“With all the comments about Canada ‘not being a real country’ and we’d ‘cease to exist’ if it weren’t for the United States, here’s a chance to show our strength, support, and unique cultural identity through music. With our deep, deep bench strength when it comes to music, we could fill a week with nothing but great Canadian music,” said Alan Cross, host of Ongoing History of New Music.

I don't know about other genres, but for rock radio there's more than enough content from Canada + the rest of the world, that you could have a no-US station and not get stale. You'd miss out on some good stuff, but there's lots of of other good stuff.

I really like this couple.

As they get more famous, they're becoming insufferable in that universal and provincial Newfoundland way ("You'd pay $100 for this salmon in Tranna!", "Proper Newfoundland boil-up!", etc.), but it's still a very minor aspect of the genuinely likeable content.

The episode of Severance filmed in Newfoundland finally aired. Mostly Fogo, Port Union, and Bonavista, maybe English Harbour in there as well? And the provincial highway to Salvage. They're all combined into one fictional, American town in the show (i.e. he leaves a cafe that's in Bonavista and a few seconds later is driving through the red rowhouse area of Port Union, etc.).

It looks interesting, but cancelled my Prime subscription, is it worth it just to see this?

Hmm... depends what you're into. For one month, if you could binge the two seasons to date in that time... probably worth the $10, yeah.

I watched that last night and even two seconds in when Patricia Arquette is driving down the rugged coast in her Rabbit I was like "nowhere in the US looks like that, that has to be Newfoundland".

There was no mention of Newfoundland whatsoever in that episode, and none of the locals had accents or any cultural giveaways, but that might be for the best. It made Newfoundland look poor, remote and dystopic.

At first I thought it was a whole season, but it's only one episode. However it looks like a good series. It's supposed to be somewhere in the US.

These dark times brought to mind for me this great, poignant song by one of my fav musicians, Bob Seger. He wrote it two decades ago during the Dubya years. The wonderfully incisive lyrics, relating to Iraq and Afghanistan, aren't really pertinent to now, but it's a beautiful song in any case. Seger's clear baritone is in fine fettle, I especially love strings bridge, and the lyric, "Tomorrow is the price for yesterday", is profoundly moving.

Not really a big Glass Tiger Fan but Diamond Sun is a nice song and probably my favourite.

I used to confuse Eddie Schwartz with Eddie Money. I used to think "I Think I'm in Love" was Schwartz. I wouldn't have remembered "Special Girl" was him but I know the song.

Off topic, although in Canada in the early 70s there was an organ buying fad for a bit..

As someone who has no musical aptitude whatsoever, I love this video. The guy playing the organ, Porter W. Heaps was an organ teacher at Northwestern University.

In the 1930s, he began a 40-year association with the Hammond organ company, aiding in the development of their unique drawbar design. Heaps toured the U.S. as a representative of Hammond, recording demonstration records and giving concert performances.

Hell, I'd buy an organ off this guy
