Fordham Station artwork

Quote:
Eureka

"Eureka" is a series of four "rose windows" that greet passengers on the northbound platform of Metro-North Railroad’s Fordham station in the Bronx. Reminiscent of the circular centerpiece of many Gothic cathedrals, the artwork depicts the plants and trees of the New York Botanical Garden and references the Gothic details found in the surrounding architecture of Fordham University.

New York governor proposes infrastructure improvements for Hudson Line

Jan. 5, 2025
Trains.com

Two MTA Metro-North trains meet at Breakneck Ridge on the Hudson Line on Oct. 14, 2024. New York’s Governor is proposing infrastructure improvements to cut travel times on the route. MTA/Marc A. Hermann

"ALBANY, N.Y. — New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is set to propose infrastructure improvements to the Hudson Line used by Metro-North and Amtrak’s Empire Service that could cut travel times by as much as 15 minutes, and reduce Metro-North’s fastest service between Poughkeepsie and New York City to less than 90 minutes.

The proposal will be part of Hochul’s State of the State address, set for Jan. 14, the Governor’s Office said in a press release today (Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025). It includes planning, evaluation, and design for projects including a second track at Spuyten Duyvil; interlocking, signal, and track improvements at Croton-Harmon; capacity improvements at Poughkeepsie Yard; Metropolitan Transportation Authority signal improvements near Yonkers; and climate-resilience projects on the line’s most vulnerable and highest-ridership segments...

The plan calls for MTA to evaluate and design other projects — such as adding a third track to the Harlem Line or connecting Hudson Line service to Penn Station — under an appropriation anticipated to be available as part of the agency’s 2025-29 capital plan. The MTA and New York State Department of Transportation will also create a regional rail working group with New Jersey and Connecticut to better coordinate matters such as interoperability, ticketing and schedules. The working group will also develop plans to make Metro-North or Long Island Rail Road travel to the 2026 World Cup at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium “as seamless as possible,” and explore further integration of regional travel."

NJ Transit president on light rail: It's coming to South Jersey, like it or not.

By Joseph P. Smith
Cherry Hill Courier-Post
Feb. 20, 2025

"GLASSBORO — NJ Transit President Kris Kolluri on Wednesday told an audience of South Jersey business representatives and elected officials that he intends to see pre-construction this year on a local light rail line.

This project, an 18-mile-long light rail line proposed to run between Glassboro and the city of Camden, is a “once in a century” chance at development, according to Kolluri. He estimated that the design stage is at the 30% mark.

The proposed Glassboro-Camden Line, aka GCL, is controversial in the communities through which it would pass..."

^ Should still be a PATCO extension instead of a standalone one-off.

Why are they building this stupid line, which will have no ridership, while they STILL haven't commenced construction of the Northern extension of HBLR? It will run through some of the densest, most transit-oriented real estate in North Jersey. The HBLR extension will have 20x the ridership of this South Jersey line.

I really hate this governor. He 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵, He has done nothing for transit and he opposes congestion pricing. He only looks good compared to Christie, who cancelled the ARC tunnel, probably the dumbest decision in NJ history.

Its vitally important to double track that last bit of the Empire Corridor Tunnel to make any Hudson Line improvements fully worthwhile,

Hochul announces $150M to connect LIRR with Islip airport

By Adina Genn
Long Island Business Journal
Feb. 12, 2025

"Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Wednesday that New York State will provide $150 million to Suffolk County for the infrastructure to connect the Long Island Rail Road Ronkonkoma station with a proposed north terminal at Long Island MacArthur Airport.

“This is how you make quality of life for Long Islanders, save time for them and build connections for our visitors as well,” Hochul said at the airport.

“By improving transit access, redesigning road networks, and enhancing critical infrastructure, we are unlocking new opportunities for businesses, tourism, and economic development,” she said. “This $150 million investment will also create good-paying union jobs while transforming how Long Islanders connect to one another, to New York and to the rest of the world..."

I know that the LIRR recently triple tracked the Ronkonkoma line but did they leave room in the ROW to quad track it eventually?

Interesting. The cab drivers are going to hate it...they've been doing 5-minute, $15 cab rides for the past 50+ years.

No , and they cut corners to appease landowners, so the Mineola has 2 side platforms instead of one Island and one side. The Oyster Bay is forced to merge into one track and can only use one platform, which causes delays during rush hour. The Floral Park to Queens Village segment is a hot mess...

The Glassboro Line will likely have a similar ridership to the Northern Branch. Its the only growing section of South Jersey and a Busy corridor.
