Was she away from home for quite a while? I’d be anxious if I couldn’t be home to keep up with the shovelling or brushing and knowing I’d have to come back home to a gargantuan task like that. If so, I’d try to arrange for a service to deal with it in real time and pay a couple hundred.

Most would charge a one-time fee of about $40 to $50. I'd probably pay someone too. My snowblower broke down during this storm. I thought "fuck it, I'm paying someone", but decided to shovel the edges of the driveway to at least give the guy an idea of the outline. I got carried away and ended up doing everything by hand.

I totally didn't expect parts of Pittsburgh to look like this. I instantly thought of St. John's when I saw those rowhouses. Pittsburgh is one of the few large cities I haven't visited in the Eastern US. It's just not on the way to any popular destination from here, so getting there is not exactly convenient. But I'll really have to plan for a detour one day to at least spend half a day there.

That happens a lot where I say I’m going to go do this section only now and come back later for the rest and then you just end up doing the whole thing or whatever. Very satisfying when you do finish though.

Harbour froze up again a little bit since last week but still large swathes of open water. Must be the wind keeeping a current and preventing still water.

I’m not used to seeing the rivers frozen over with a thick blanket of snow. People who are unfamiliar have to be careful not to walk out not realizing there’s a river below. This is the same spot where there’s a waterfall that in the surrounding area is like 12-24” deep and then immediately in front of the waterfall it drops to 15 feet. If the water is brown like after a heavy rain then you’d have no idea if you were wading in the water.

My parents live on a court in Mississauga and the city hasn't removed the snow, so there is a massive mount right now. Has to be at least 10 feet high. Always fund watching it melt away in March.

Over the past 25 years living in Quebec, there have been way too many god damn times we got home from a ski vacation up north and had to shovel the fucking driveway.

-12C (windchill -24) in Moncton at noontime. Blowing and drifting snow are continuing, causing occasional white outs and most road surfaces remain snow covered. It was very windy last night.

The storm stalled out over the Gulf of St. Lawrence yesterday, prolonging our pain. The wind was so loud last night that it woke me up.

Thankfully, conditions will improve today, and, the long range forecast doesn't look too bad. Mostly sunny with temperatures near the freezing point for the next week.

The third storm (nor'easters always occur in triplets) is being pushed out to sea by a strong ridge of high pressure. It is not expected to affect the Maritimes (but, the Avalon may be at risk).

It’s been a cold winter, though no brutal cold spells. However, that means lots of sun. Super clear today and I could see the Skylon Tower in Niagara. The photo is not representative of what you see with the naked eye. Can make out the tower and some hotels.

Mid day and only -21. but going up to -17 at midnight. So the slow warm begins. Clear blue skies though. I am quite amazed at the snow accumulations out east. We are still well be low our average snow fall.

Those amount remind me of going up in the 60s and we could ski off the house roof.

All said though, our snow dumps do have a lot more pilled than last year.

Finally snow removal night on my street (the orange signs warn drivers to park elsewhere). They'll snowblow and truck it all away as opposed to just plowing it onto the sidewalks, ha! We just walk in the road in winter (and well into spring, really, as it takes a few weeks for the habit to break).

The city of Montreal is over its head, the storms were too much even for a city that is used to it. The fact it's so cold is making things worse.
Took me 30 min for a 1 km drive (TBH walking is not much better since not everything is cleared which is why you are seeing the person in the middle of the street in the picture). I had no will to walk in this brutal cold.



Low of -16C (wind chill of -27) this morning.

We hit a high of -7C in Mississauga today, and I made the most of the sunny weather with a walk in the 'downtown' area this morning. I was attending a geocache event when i took this.

Supposedly we'll see some localized snow accumulations of an inch or so, but the rest of this week looks pretty good, around -5 to -7 until the weekend, where it rises toward 0C into next week.

I discovered last night that the weekend windstorm had blown two of the protective storm windows off my gazebo, damaging both of them. I was able to repair one, but, the other will require some professional attention. There was no other damage. The screen windows that the storm windows were protecting are fine.

Benign weather for the next week, with highs generally around the freezing mark.
