Store is small. But, it has a lot of the essentials ranging from Super Cish to IGAish prices.

I noticed that for a lot of dry items, they would have the cheaper brand pasta and then a more authentic higher price brand pasta in the same area. They also kept depanneur staples to more of a minimum.

I was surprised that it didnt end up being more of a Farmboy style, with an hot food bar and meals to go. I am of kind of glad it was that way. They have a small cafe, but it only seem to serve drip coffee.

Definitely satisfied to have another option in driving radius. Also, the parking spots underground are costco wide.

Went past it after 7PM yesterday, it was closed, and no sign of working hours anywhere. Weird. The corner shop next door is open till 11PM.

Opening hours from the website:

Lundi : 7 h à 19 h
Mardi : 7 h à 19 h
Mercredi : 7 h à 19 h
Jeudi : 7 h à 20 h
Vendredi : 7 h à 20 h
Samedi : 8 h à 18 h
Dimanche : 8 h à 18 h

Certainly not the best hours, but I imagine they are taking a cautious approach to stay financially viable. Better hours that are less than ideal than no grocery store.

Yes, you are right that they are taking a cautious approach. I'll keep it simple since it's black and white. I work with these owners of this market and also have a bargaining hand with the leasing of retail space on the Lyon Street run of empty retail spaces between Albert and Slater in the new developments. The leasing and development industry is banking on a change of Government(Fed) since there is a big promise of getting rid of certain taxes and lowering of many other taxes. This is also delaying quite a few development projects from starting. Hopefully things will change soon for the better that will benefit all walks of life!

From hoggytime on Skyrise. Gives me a Rideau Street/Byward vibe how wide that is.

How did you find the build year for Le Neufchatel?

I had an idea a while back to make a heatmap of the entire region. Google earth style with color gradient pins of buildings over 4/5 floors. Year built, height and or both.

Would be interesting to be able to click between the first two and activate the third. I had the idea when I started thinking about all those monolithic residential slabs seemingly built between the late 60s and 70s. Was curious to see how quickly an area like Lincoln Fields was built up.

If it wasn't on Wiki or basic google search I ran out of creativity. I'm also not smart enough to make this into a semi automated process. It wouldn't be that far off from your wireframe models as an idea.

I hereby license the concept to anybody willing.

I wasn't expecting this project to be this far along. It had kind of slipped my mind. By end of summer this street is going to look a little different with TC moving along.

According to the city it was built in 1975 (at least that's what on the property assessment).

Proposed maybe, but built in 77. I used historical images, can't remember if it was Google Earth or GeoOttawa.

The new La Cité apartment tower right near it is considerably taller than the cube. I believe the cube is just under 40 m so that would be as tall as a 10-storey building.

La Cité is 19 storeys and visibly almost twice as tall.

There is also this older 13-storey building a few blocks off Gréber which is taller than the cube, I am pretty sure.

Looking at GeoOttawa, the shorter three winged tower existed in 1965, and by 1976 the entire Ambleside complex was built. I wonder if Place de Ville Downtown influenced the increase in height for the rest of the project.

It's strange that that this was the only high rise built in old Gatineau before La Cité.

Good catch about that building! I knew about La Cité, it was U/C when I asked the question. It's what made me realize than the cube was a lot taller than it seemed.

The office building next to the La Cité apartments (550 Place de la Cité) is also one of the tallest in Gatineau sector. It's 10 storeys and roughly the same height as the cube (40 m).

From Harley, nearly topped out.

From myself on Sunday, the impact on the skyline.

And the grocery store entrance.

I went to the Saveurs grocery store on Sunday around 10:30AM and again around 1:00PM to compare it to the new Food Basics. Space was not as well utilized, certainly nowhere near as packed with merchandise. There's a big empty space along Eddy with a few tables and chairs. They do have most of the traditional departments (Meat, Deli, a Café... no Bakery) unlike Food Basics. They still have most of what you might need, just fewer options, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. More specialty and local items. Overall it's quite nice.

Dead as dead can be however, which surprised me. I don't know when their busy times are, but I hope they have enough clientele to survive in the long term.

Seems to be 29, not 26 floors according to Harley's on site observation and Heafey's website.
