I absolutely agree that the anger at losing the white picket fence is real. Immigration is a big reason but most of the others are provincial/municipal. Not building highway infrastructure, development fees, and as you say blocking development. But also record low interest rates gave people more buying power. In 2021 lots of those 2017 on the sideline folks got into the market. It can seem hopeless how if you are 25 but prices and interest rates are coming down naturally. Voting for someone that will blow everything up isn't necessarily going to make things better it might make them worse.

I think what people most want is a backyard (particularly after the COVID lockdowns). There are a number of row house options that would be fairly popular, they are just too difficult to build on an infill basis in most neighborhoods with the current “gate keeping.”

I would be okay with an European cheesemaker criticizing Canada’s supply management system (i.e. “getting involved in Canadian domestic politics”). Countries don’t each exist in their own vacuum.

Edit — even if you want to completely ignore the business angle, wouldn’t be any worse than Brigitte Bardot “getting involved in domestic Canadian seal hunting”. When you’re a celebrity, you can use that weight to try to further your pet causes, it’s fair game.

If I as a Canadian were to donate money to a political campaign/party in the US I would be breaching US election laws.

The same applies in Canada. A political party in Canada or candidate is forbidden to receive donations from a non-citizen.

Most democratic countries have similar rules. It is just illegal in most countries.

He is also a senior official of the US government. When he lends his support to a far right organisation is he speaking on behalf of the US government? That is a question for our American friends to have.

Because there a lot of ways an arm can end up perpendicular to one’s body without giving a Nazi salute (touching one’s chest and then unflexing the arm from the elbow). Musk wasn’t screencapped with his arm extended, he did a full Nazi salute on video.
