Here’s reality. I’m all for team enthusiasm but people dying and vandalizing the city just isn’t worth the win. Several windows on Walnut and elsewhere were smashed last night not to mention destroyed light poles etc. People are getting way too caught up in the hysteria. This stuff needs to be called out.

Oh lord here come the negadelphians. There are always gonna be bad actors when you get hundreds of thousands of people together. The city was well prepared and the vast majority of people celebrated responsibly and had fun. They know this stuff happens and will be prepared fix it. That's one aspect of living in a walkable city where people can actually gather. It's a challenge sure but the city is still here today

Funny how this doesn’t happen in NYC or cities that are more walkable though isn’t it? A guy died. You’re being really flippant.

18 year old Temple student. Climbed a light pole on Broad. Fell to his death. Seems like a lot of people are pretty desensitized to death these days but it’s pretty sad.

You're right, this doesn't happen elsewhere.

Not excusing the meatheads in Philly, but let's not pretend this is a Philly-only problem.

I like how you’re all taking issue with me about just trying to saying maybe we should reign things in a bit so people don’t die and windows don’t get smashed.

Fact is the city still has a reputation problem with QOL. But I’m glad you’re happy a bunch of millionaires won a game

Yes. I'm sorry. You made it sound like someone killed someone last night.

That kid did something stupid and died. No one is desensitized. That was a horrible tragedy and shouldn't have happened but that wasn't about violence. That was about a kid doing something that he shouldn't have done.

The celebration last night was 99.9% just people having fun and celebrating with the remainder just morons being stupid. It happens EVERYWHERE. Why is it that Philadelphians always try to make it sound like it's just a Philly thing?

I went to school in southern Ohio. They used to bring their couches out into the street and burn them when the basketball team won a big game. Hundreds of em.

The argument is that it's not just a Philly thing. It happens regularly when there is a big, jubilant crowd (with possibly a little libation mixed in). For some reason, some Philly residents seem to want to make it seem like it only happens here.

You're obviously not a sports fan but try to understand the connection that millions of people feel to their sports teams. It's not just a bunch of millionaires winning a game. Often it's the only joy people get in their lives. Not a small thing. And the violence that some tiny percentage devolve into has nothing to do with sports. It's a crowd mentality thing that is much more complex than a single sporting event.

It’s strange how youre all against me for just trying to discourage this stuff from happening. Also saying it happens in other places doesn’t make it right or that it shouldn’t be criticized.

I know it’s crazy to suggest maybe we should encourage people to celebrate positively and criticize those who put themselves or others in danger or destroy things.

No one is against you. And no one is saying that it doesn't — that this stuff happens during large scale celebrations.

We all agree on that.

Haha fair. Again I support the enthusiasm but I wish police were more involved in crowd control and preventing people from destroying things. That didn’t seem to happen as much as I had hoped.

There were thousands of cops out last night. I was actually shocked to see that many. There are just too many people in some off these things to control that stuff. And the cops have to be careful things don't escalate into real issues if they were to act on stuff that isn't a threat to the public. I hate that some people think it would be awesome to pull down a traffic pole or throw a bottle. But if the police acted on every one of those things, you could incite a riot.

It's complicated.

Everyone knows good things can't happen without dwelling on the negatives. From what I heard the police did a good job balancing things and moving crowds. This stuff happens worldwide after soccer games too, which hopefully we'll be ready for bc hooliganism can be another level

Begging Philadelphians to be positive lol

On a lighter note, I find it funny that our orange commander in chief didn't congratulate the Eagles.
