I believe that we're at the intersection of National Blvd. and Motor Ave. looking northwest under the PE's Santa Monica Air Line bridge in the first image. The second and third images show the right-of-way up the embankment to the left of the service station.

Not far from here was the location of the LAP/PE's gingerbread-style Palms Station, which was moved to Heritage Square decades ago. This scene is now taken up with the Santa Monica Freeway and the Metro E Line.

Going by the ACSC sign, this is just east of Palms, as the sign shows Palms, West Los Angeles, and Santa Monica all to the left.
The street sign on the lamp post was difficult to read, but with the help of putting this on my TV I eventually figured it out as Featherstone. No street by that name in the area now, but I found it in a 1936 L.A. city directory.
The description places Featherstone Drive as starting west from 9001 Venice Blvd., with intersections at Durango, Canfield, Bagley, Cardiff, Watseka, Tabor, and Hughes. This is the path of today's Exposition Blvd.

I found a 1937 aerial photo at UCSB, and it looks like the only rail bridge along that distance is the one over National Blvd., and there is what appears to be a gas station on that corner. So in the old short, we're looking north on Hughes, where National Blvd. crosses under the bridge from the far side of the tracks, and then turns west on the near side of the tracks, while Featherstone Dr. proceeds east on the near side of the tracks.

The newer railroad bridge has shifted slightly westward from the location of the previous bridge.

Once I found the location, I noticed it was familiar! This very same intersection appeared in season 6 of Agents of SHIELD in 2019, where characters went into Bob's Food Mart on the west side of Hughes Ave.

looks like the intersection of Exposition, National blvd and Palms Blvd. with the Santa Monica Air Line overpass over National Blvd. but i'm not 100 percent sure due to some topography issues, but i know that intersection was used back in the day for many silent movies. This location is just blocks from RKO, Hal Roach, Fox and MGM studios.

Thanks to Henry Huntington, ProphetM and fullpower...I knew it had to be somewhere around Exposition/National but I could not pin it down.

This was a Hal Roach short for MGM, as fullpower notes the studio filmed in this area frequently, for The Little Rascals, Laurel & Hardy, Charley Chase etc.

I was just watching "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice", and the song MacArthur Park featured in the film (The Richard Harris original in the film and the Donna Summer disco cover in the end credits).

Turns out, Jimmy Webb wrote the song inspired by MacArthur Park in Los Angeles.

And looking further into MacArthur Park, it was originally Westlake Park (with a mirrored Eastlake Park now called Lincoln Park in East LA).

Westlake and Eastlake were both spring fed LA reservoirs until they lost their purpose.

And they were part of Zanja Madre, LA's OG aqueduct system.

Zanja is Spanish for trench.

There's a non-linear Zanja Street in Mar Vista dating back to the 19th Century that connects to W Washington Blvd.

Was the Mar Vista Zanja Street part of another old water system???

I grew up in culver city - palms area and from what i understand Zanja Street was indeed a Zanja at one time. that also comes from the LA Times.

Looks like the original Immaculate Heart was demolished after the Sylmar quake. It seems like the replacement building is roughly the same size and layout. It must have been brand new when they sold the land to AFI.

I liked photo #6 of NBC on the corner of Sunset and Vine. Not because it's anything really new we haven't seen before, but it's a personal tourist snapshot and from 1947 and has a way about it, to me anyway, with some people sitting on the--railing?--in front of it.

Also, photo #4 shows a street t-boning another street and the entrance to that street has huge thick palm trees and a couple other trees that I find interesting.

The National Editorial Association held their 1892 Annual Convention in San Francisco on May 23th-25th.

On a Californian jaunt to get there, they stopped off in Los Angeles for an evening reception at the Chamber of Commerce on May 17th.

Next day May 18th 1892, after a drive about town, they had lunch in the grounds of Judge Charles Silent's residence at 711 West Adams (later 4 Chester Place).

Thanks for the great then and now comparison shots, Lorendoc! They look nearly in the exact same positioning. That building left of center is also still there! The telephone pole in the center even looks the same, though I'm guessing it probably isn't.

I just realized that if you turn left there, that's Vin Scully Ave. (formerly Elysian Park Ave.) that you take up to Dodger Stadium. The building in frame at left is the Super 8 Motel. That's where the Sunset Arms is located in Photo #1.
