That's a heavyweight panel for the announcement of a meal program.

Oh well.

Not good for a development forum, but I like that they are treating it as a priority.

There is a demand for a variance for the anglican parish lot off of Ohio road. It states the purchase of the lot to a provincial entity. This may confirm the new schools location?

Thanks.

Your link didn't work (apparently because of an extra http:// in the address line). I looked it up on the Plan360 website myself, and recopied the link below. This link works.

I am quite sure you are correct. If the lot is being created for a "provincial entity", and, a new anglophone k-12 school is planned, these are easy dots to connect,

The (large) lot in question lies to the west of Ohio Road, immediately adjecent to the north side of Highway 15.

The provincial entity is the department of Transportation and Infrastructure
"In this case the Provincial Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is the purchaser of Lot 25-1 and
has negotiated a purchase and sale agreement with the owner"

There is smoke now. So I guess the delay in the announcement is getting the access to the land figured out unless I'm reading that document wrong

Moncton artisan ice cream shop adding Shediac location
Lost and Found Ice Cream is adding second location on Shediac's busy Main Street

Jonathan Morrison, owner of Lost and Found Ice Cream, told Brunswick News he will be expanding his ice cream business into Shediac at 351 Main Street, next to Halo Donuts, St. Louis Bar & Grill, and Le globe café Shediac.

Morrison said he had been approached by the developer who was planning to have a corridor of high-end food businesses in the area. The building that will house the new ice cream shop is a mixture of residential and commercial space.
This was previously known. I post the article primarily because it reveals the name of the fourth food option being added to this building - Le Globe Cafe.

I love the idea of a concentration of restaurants, cafes, coffee shops etc on the ground floor of residential buildings. I think it really adds to the "urban neighbourhood" vibe.

I was talking to someone within the school district over the weekend and they confirmed that the lot next to Oceanic Campground is indeed where the school will be going. The lot was picked before the election but couldn't be confirmed until after the government has changed, he said they were sworn to secrecy but that the announcement was supposed to be made Jan 31st.

Why?

Especially in Shediac, this would not have affected the outcome of the election. A Liberal win here has been pre-ordained since 1895!!!

Plan360 agenda for February 26th. There are several items of note on the agenda pertaining to Shediac.

https://plan360.ca/meetings/se-prac-meeting-2025-02-26

The most significant is this proposal for 673-675 Main Street for four buildings (one mixed use and three small apartment buildings totalling 54 units).

This property lies slightly to the east of the Ohio Road/Main Street intersection. Renders are available in the documentation in the link supplied above.

I think it had more to do with the previous minister of education and the fight he was having with the Anglophone East school district over policy 713. This is purely speculation but it seems to be moving forward now.

Le globe café Shediac opened earlier this month on Main Street next to Halo Donuts and Lost and Found Ice Cream.

Vincent Doucher said he and his partner Chris Doucher had a dream of opening a cafe when they moved from France to New Brunswick in 2023.
Quote:
The plan is for the menu to change regularly, and he said pictures will be posted of the day’s offerings on Le globe café Shediac’s social media pages. In addition to soups and sandwiches there are different varieties of pastries, deserts, and tarts.

As per Town of Shediac meeting last night. Request for rezoning from Plan360 regarding new English School. To see school location forward to 35 mins in meeting below link

Also noticed something interesting realignment of school street entrance on Ohio rd. Telling me traffic circle or traffic light is possible to connect across st development of the land that was clear last year.

I did a screen capture from the Youtube video presentation for discussion:

You can see the footprint of the school, it's position on the lot, as well as the bus drop-off, parking lots and sports fields.

Interesting comment about the realigned entrance roadway off of Ohio, and how this is directly across the street from the recently cleared land on the east side of the street. You may very well be correct that they may be planning a major signalized intersection or roundabout here. There are rumours of Walmart, Superstore (or both).

I'm very much in a wait and see mode on both those rumours. I can't imagine Superstore would open with a No Frills already in Shediac and a Walmart just seems like a stretch, but again we will have to wait and see. I haven't seen anything official on what is going to on on that lot. A lot of people thought that was where the school was going.

It will be interesting to see how the next couple of months go for the school and the town meetings.

On a side note, there was also a contract awarded for a company to start the process of doing an ROI on the potential sports complex, it was given to the same company that worked on the UNIplex in Dieppe.

A taste of home: Shediac woman grows Filipino foodtruck into Main Street business
Sarap takeout expands, opens only international grocery store in town

In downtown Shediac there is a brick building, built in 1910, which holds some of the town's past.

But it's the nod to the future inside that makes the former Léger Pharmacy building stand out now.

It's home to Sarap, a Filipino-Canadian takeout restaurant and a new international grocery store.
Quote:
The Filipino population in New Brunswick appears to have more than doubled from 2016 to 2021, according to a Statistics Canada census, with 2,590 people listing Tagalog, a language native to the Philippines, as their mother tongue during that time.

The vibrancy of that group is evident to anyone who spends a day on the Shediac area.

I thought the restaurant was already there before? I remember trying their restaurant last late summer/early fall. The grocery beside them is new for sure.

Semi-relevant, but a different Filipino restaurant in Shediac offers the dessert called "sans rival", which confuses the Francophone community due to the name. But it's a cashew-based cake of Filipino origin.

Don't know. The CBC just got around to reporting on it.

The restaurant was already there. I think the story is mainly about them expanding with their new international grocery store.

Environment, development, focus of Shediac's new strategic plan
Shediac's new strategic plan aims to prepare for environmental sustainability and growth

Mayor Roger Caissie said the municipality’s former plan was in need of an update to account for the needs of communities that joined Shediac as part of local government reform in 2023, which added the local service districts of Shediac Cape, Scoudouc Road, Pointe-du-Chêne and Scoudouc.
Quote:
In order for Shediac to grow and encourage future development, Caissie said it will involve updating aging municipal infrastructure like pipes and roads, and identifying key parcels of land for residential and commercial development.

He pointed to the extension of Breaux Bridge Street, which will help to alleviate traffic congestion on Main Street. That work is set to get underway in the spring.
