Some sort of system rolling through for Thursday, still unsure of what it'll end up being for us. Right now looking like a snow to rain event.
EDIT: Special weather statement issued for Wednesday night through Thursday morning. 5-10 cm of snow for St. John's with a transition to rain, about 5 mm. The illustrious first big storm is still yet to come, but this will likely be the biggest one day snowfall for us so far this winter.

You are getting the same system as we had in Quebec. Went from +1 to -17 here overnight.
The last few days have not been so cold, with highs of -0.3, -0.8, -0.2 and today finally tipping above freezing at 2.2.

Yesterday we topped out at 3.0 and dropped to -10.4 at 6 am this morning. Our high today is forecast to be -1. Snowfall is accumulating. We can still see the lawn grass poking up through the snow but we could end up with 10 cm before this system passes. Rain will mix with the snow along parts of the coast limiting accumulation of snow.
Remarks: Precipitation will begin as snow, before mixing with or changing periods of drizzle or a few rain showers late overnight into early Thursday morning as temperatures briefly creep above zero before dropping again later Thursday morning.
Another period of snow can be expected Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening giving an additional 2 to 5 cm locally.
Any small shift in the track of the weather system could cause notable changes to the precipitation amounts. Be sure to check for regularly updated forecasts to stay informed.

Warm and windy again, Calgary is the hot spot in the country at 12 degrees. Big cold snap coming this weekend though! temps are going to drop 30-40 degrees!
