To restate my question: does anyone recognize the cabin seen briefly here at about 1:58? A close-up of it in a preceding shot reveals it to be shingled. It's somewhat similar to the Bungalow Inn that was in Laurel Canyon, but those structures were a little different.

Hoss, yes, the little girl is supposed to be riding a mule. I believe those woods to be Griffith Park, though the cabin in question was likely somewhere else. (I think Griffith Park had a house in it, but it was adobe.)

As promised, here are the rest of the Demsky photographs.

This first one is very similiar to PHOTO #2 in yesterday's post. They were no doubt taken on the same day. As you can see this one provides a wider angle.

We have a street NUMBER! I hadn't noticed it before I enlarged the photograph. ...2723.

And here's an amazing look inside! (but there isn't any writing to tell us who is who)

Unless I'm seeing things, the handsome fellow's fly is open. (is that a socket wrench or is he just glad to see us?)

I'd say this next one is the newest (and last) of the bunch. (1930s?)

I see something else that I hadn't noticed before. The. .Est. in 1922.

There is writing on the back of this one.

Not terribly important but it's there.

Oh, and one last thing.

This photographer's stamp appears on a couple of the other photographs. (but not all of them)

I think that's everything.

As for that Kirk Douglas connection the seller mentioned. ..I'm still at a loss...

Apparently my post from last night on the preceding page gained absolutely no notice, let me try again...

The premises in question were located at 2723 Lincoln Blvd. in the Ocean Park district of Santa Monica. By 1933, the business was listed in the Santa Monica City Directory at 2931 Lincoln Blvd. This was the most recent listing for the business, at least under this name.

The Demsky's (Morris and Sadie) resided at 714 Hill St., around the corner and a few doors up from Lincoln Blvd. The most recent SM directory on LAPL's Res Carta site (1947-48) shows the Demsky's still at that address. Morris is reported as a "salvage worker", which I'd take to mean that he was then employed by others.

Morris Demsky (born Movsha Danilovich), 3rd from left in the picture, was the brother of Harry Demsky ( born Girsch Danilovich), father of
Kirk Douglas (born Issur Danielovitch) a.k.a. Izzy Demsky.

Here's an interesting photograph (that we might have seen before) of Sunset and Vine in 1951. We're looking west from the steps of NBC Radio City.

Here's a closer look at the southwest corner. It looks like Sunset and Vine was giving Hollywood and Vine a run for its money in terms of pedrestrian traffic and advertising signs.

I'm curious about the huge rooftop sign farther down the street (Sunset)

Does anyone know what it was advertising and what building it was on top of?

I think the rooftop sign is for Goodyear and belonged to Vernon Farquhar Hollywood Tires at 6472 W Sunset. The image below is from a colorized 1952 video. It's about 45 seconds in.

Is it a surfboard on a roof rack? That would be unusual for Sunset Boulevard.

I also love the colorized green Studebaker in the screengrab from the video. It looks like it just rolled out of the showroom.

The Case of the Tethered Blimp.

This interesting photograph recently showed up on eBay.

Seller's description: 1940s Santa Monica California bomb Blimp Freeway 35mm Kodachrome slide photo LA

I've been trying to figure out where in Santa Monica it was taken.

Here's a closer look at the bottom part.

The lumber yard is vaguely familiar to me but I don't remember where it was located. (as you can see the name is partially obscured by a street light so I can't look it up)
I believe the first word is something like, Patten?. . Payen? . . (my eyes aren't the best)

I believe there's another tethered blimp off in the distance - over there on the right - - - >

Let's take another closer look.

Taken on (above?) the PCH looking north-east outside where you'll find The Pierside Santa Monica today. The bridge is still there carrying Main Street. The 1947/48 Santa Monica CD lists the Patten-Blinn Lumber Co at 612 Colorado Avenue.

I looked for discussion about Immaculate Heart College in Los Feliz but couldn't find it. There's a very good documentary on HBO Max about the nuns called "Rebel Hearts" and I was curious what happened to the buildings. I've always heard that the American Film Institute moved into the structure, but have never been up there. It's also not listed in the Gebhard & Winter guide. Does any portion of the 1905 building still exist?
