Might be some action with the vacant Rona store on Wonderland north. Delivered a couple skids there today, addressed to a grocery store. The guy that met me there was driving a nice Audi SUV and I asked about the store. He said it was his friend who was hoping to open there in the next year. Not sure if this friend has taken on the entire space or what but the guy I talked to was light on details. Wasn't sure how much of the space would be the store and what else might go in there, I did mention it's awfully big for a grocery store. I did google the name of the chain and the guy's name on the paperwork and it led back to somebody working at T&T Supermarkets, which just opened a few blocks away. Might be a totally unrelated person, so I'll keep the info on the store quiet for now. I left there feeling skeptical anything was going to happen and wouldn't be surprised if I was back there a year from now taking back the stuff I dropped off today lol. Will obviously update if I hear anything else here.

Jammer mentioned in another thread the sign up at the Hyde Park Peavey location that is closing this spring sometime. I just noticed that the Woodstock Peavey Mart is also closing. Looked online and saw several other locations in SW Ontario have closed recently or are closing. Saw the first line of an article behind a paywall mentioning them as a struggling retailer trying to secure cash, but I couldn't see the rest of the article. As some may know, London is the headquarters of the retailer that Peavey Mart took over a few years ago, TSC, and their offices and distribution centre is on Clarke Rd, employing a few hundred people. Hopefully they are still strong enough to stay open and keep those people employed. Tough market with the big box competition. Have to admit, they aren't usually on the list when I'm shopping for something and I do the Home Hardware, Home Depot, Canadian Tire rounds.

2020 announcement to open a drug manufacturing facility has failed. Company has to repay the federal government loan.

Anvo broke ground on the London plant, located in the Advanced Manufacturing Park at Veterans Memorial Parkway and Bradley Avenue, in September 2020. Work stopped on the plant during the summer of 2024.

The building on a two-hectare lot are for sale, listed with CBRE for $10.5 million. It was listed in December.

Further to the Peavey Mart news, I saw a list posted elsewhere with I think 22 locations listed on it. It showed Lambeth but not Hyde Park, but as noted, the Hyde Park store has the banner on it. I haven't been by the Lambeth store to notice if they have a sign or not.

Chatham, St Thomas, Goderich, Sarnia, Mount Forest, Kitchener and St Jacob, are others from the region that are on the list (as well as Woodstock that I mentioned above).

And now apparently all Peavey Mart stores are closing, which also presumes the warehouse on Clarke Rd will be as well. My company delivers a fair amount of freight into that warehouse and we haven't had anything going in there since December, so I imagine certain vendors have had their eyes on the stability of this retailer for a while. Sad news for those working there.
