Utah Hockey Club facing trademark hurdles in finding permanent name
https://www.ksl.com/article/51234156/uta...demark-hurdles-in-finding-permanent-name

It looks like the Yeti name is probably out due to trademark issues. The article also says there are issues with "Blizzard" and "Venom" (no tears from me), the simple Utah Hockey Club name may also face hurdles because you can't trademark "Utah." So the name may come down to Outlaws or Mammoth.

I'm Still hoping for "Storm'n Mormons"

I also like the name Mammoth. The current team colors would work with that name, which gives me hope. However, I suspect that Outlaws probably got the second most votes after Yeti. Just a guess.

I'm doubtful they'll make the decision solely based on votes.

Mammoth is a totally great name.

Colorado Mammoth

You can test Kroenke to see how good his lawyers have been in securing copyrights.

I'm all for testing it. Thinking you have a monopoly on a sports name that isn't absolutely made up anyway - is ridiculous. Especially for a team that plays in a league no one even knows exists or cares about.

Maybe Boise State should sue the Denver Broncos for stealing their name too.

I mean, keeping in theme, there's also a Denver Outlaws in the outdoor professional Lacrosse League.

Teams are going to share names. It's inevitable.

Bees tix at the new stadium in Daybreak are stupid expensive. If this is gonna be a trial for MLB, I think they fail

Corrected link:
https://www.sltrib.com/sports/2025/01/27/salt-lake-bees-ticket-prices-will/

TLDR: Homeplate tix are 3x to 4x the previous cost. Of course they say "we have a new building so we have to justify it with higher prices", as if we all asked for them to move the team and build a new expensive stadium.

I know I've questioned whether the Millers were truly interested in landing a MLB team or if it was a half-assed idea to justify moving the Bees south and to get investment in the North Temple area where they could benefit financially.

Stuff like this doesn't make me think differently.

Salt Lake City Slickers

Tbh I think "Utah Hockey Club" might stick.

Utah Wasatch is horrible. Mammoth is bearable.

Wasatch isn't going to happen. This will be an up or down vote on Mammoth. If people like it, that will be the name. If they don't we're stuck with Utah Hocky Club.

I low key think that's the direction SEG is trying to push us in.

Enough backlash and Wasatch is replaced by Outlaws. Good move Ryan.

Maybe it should just be Utah Outlaws Mammoth HC

i get that there is an nba team called the raptors, but it sounds way better and the fact that there is a raptor called the utah raptor feels too good to be true

I have said this many times and it's really sad Raptors was not even a possibility. As for the bad options originally given, I liked Black Diamonds the most. Certainly more than any of the present options. If Utah Hockey Club is the permanent name I'm sticking with VGK cuz I can't stand when American leagues have dumb names like that (real sl falls into this category for me too). Black Diamonds was niche but still approachable for people who have no idea about skiing - and it would have helped people start to associate utah more with skiing than mormons lmao

I also think utah fumbled the new state flag by picking a slightly worse/more over designed option than some of the other options presented but I will leave that alone

Utah Raptors would have been cool. Yes, there are the Toronto Raptors but that's a different sport. There are also the Arizona Cardinals and the St Louis Cardinals. San Francisco Giants and NY Giants... So, the name raptors doesn't seem impossible.

I am not a fan of the Outlaws name. It's better then Wasatch but I'm disappointed that it's back in consideration because it will probably win.
