I think it's Hyatt's trendy boutique brand. Geared towards the hipster crowd.

I checked and it's the Hyatt Place Minneapolis Downtown.

Based on the chart at the link, the Minnie one is ranked lower than the Hyatt Centric one.

I stayed at a Hyatt Centric in Arlington, VA a few years ago. It was as nice as anything in Winnipeg, but with eclectic finishes. I don't know if that's the right word, but it looked very nice. It reminded me of a milder Soneston hotel. It also had updated brutalist architecture.

But seriously it may be related to the development that is proposed to go in next to the Granite CC. There was a zoning change notice in today's Free Press about that property.

There was a public notice discussed here a while back and confusion about whether it was in the park next door or at the Granite parking lot. And we know where it is now. Maybe why they are not doing the beer gardens there anymore.

This guy shares old drawings on Facebook all the time and this one came up as a future hotel, IIRC, in a drawing from the 60's.

It's my understanding that the beer garden will continue. It's not operated by Granite. They lease the space to the folks who run it and it was extended for another five years. (Unless there are more recent developments I'm unaware of.)

Oh right, maybe I'm not remembering correctly. They WERE cancelling it to run it by themselves (the curling club). But they reneged on that I guess.

I guess whatever plans they have for the lot arent happening very soon.

Behind your link, copy where it says BBCode (the markup language used on this forum) and paste that here.

Unless I'm mistaken, the Beer Can is on the right-hand side of the "Riverbank Sector" (which is basically the curling club) in that map. The "Character Sector" indicated there looks mostly like the curling club parking lot.

Correct, they were considering doing it on their own but wisely changed their minds. Unlike the operators of the Beer Can, they don't have the experience to run something like that successfully. It's a lot of work. Better to just enjoy the passive income that leasing brings.

^Great to see so many active projects in central Winnipeg! As far as the project on Ellice I would think that it is a clever choice as it is halfway between downtown and Polo Park.

Yeah that’s it.

The club has a larger parking lot on the left/west side and a smaller one one the east side (which is where the beer can sets up in the summers). Doesn’t look like the smaller lot will be impacted.
