He suggests that Air India should begin connecting Mangaluru to West Asian destinations, as that would help with code-sharing agreements. If Air India operates flights from Mangaluru to Dubai or Abu Dhabi, passengers could get an onward connection to any destination in Europe or the US. For customers coming to Mangaluru, code sharing with Air India would offer an easy way to fly into the city.

Mangaluru to Get Two Direct Flights (per week) to Singapore, Says LS Member Brijesh
Quote:
|
Encouraging the Mangalurean diaspora in Singapore, he added, "I urge our people based in Singapore to return to their roots and consider investing in Mangaluru."
|
If everybody returns then who uses direct flights? Tourists? But the people after retirement can return & invest here helped by Singapore business links.
Why is just targetting people settled in foriegn? Don't we need our people from metro cities in India to return to their root? What about asking such people to invest in Tulunadu? For example, Dr Devi Prasad Shetty can be asked to invest in Tulunadu (Udupi to Kasargod) in health & education field (There was a political demand for government-owned Jayadev Hospital but I think nobody approached private-owned Narayana Hrudayalaya so far). Similarly Dayananda Pai who has already made donations to government schools & colleges but not in the form of institutes owned by him. So far I think only Bearys Group has made a noticeable contribuition.
Does Air India Express have any code sharing agreement with any of airlines operating from Singapore to Australia, Japan or American countries (eastward movements)? I doubt this as India is aspiring for aviation hubs in India itself. This is why it is not even granting Point of Call (PoC) status to other airports. So, PoC status means becoming aviation hub.
Have our colleges started teaching other East-Asean languages to students including
Japanese,
Korean,
Taiwanese (Mandarin Chinese), Malayo-Polynesian etc? I think Sahyadri Engineering College has started teaching Japanese to engineering students. What about other colleges which teach IT, engineering, science & commerce subjects? How many colleges teach e-commerce subjects along with a foriegn language other than English? I think learning
IT/software localization skill is very important to succeed in these countries. Does Silicon Beach Program (SBP) include a program to promote foriegn languages in colleges?
By the way, how many healthcare workers from Mangaluru are serving in eastern countries? Do nursing & other healthcare schools teach foriegn languages?
When will Mangaluru get direct flights to non-Asian continent countries?
Air India Express Adds New Route to Lion City
Quote:
Mangalore-Singapore Market Dynamics
The Mangalore-Singapore route has seen limited demand in recent years, with approximately 2,500 passengers recorded during the financial year 2023-24.
These numbers suggest that the demand for non-stop connectivity between the two cities is relatively modest compared to the Gulf sectors.
However, the airline appears to be banking on its ability to stimulate demand through competitive pricing, efficient schedules, and the convenience of direct flights.
By opening up this route, Air India Express aims to tap into a market that includes not only leisure travelers but also business professionals and students.
Strategic Expansion
...
Currently, the airline operates flights to Singapore from three Indian cities: Tiruchirappalli with twice-daily services, Chennai with eight weekly flights, and Madurai with six weekly flights (soon to be reduced to four weekly).
The airline’s entry into the Mangalore-Singapore sector is also expected to boost economic ties between the two regions. It offers businesses and travelers a direct connection to one of Asia’s most important financial hubs.
|
Annual Passengers = 2500
Total Planned flights per year = 104 per year (2 per week X 2 weeks per year)
Average passengers per flight = 24
Current demand is 15% of capacity of Boeing 737-8.
Demand will go up if
1. More Singapore companies opening offices in Tulunadu
2. More Tuluva-NRIs working in Singapore
3. Further connectivity to other eastern locations through code sharing
4. More tourists from Tulunadu travelling to/through Singapore
5. More tourists from/through Singapore visiting Tulunadu
6. Singapore companies investing in Green Hydrogen & other Energy Transition & Climate Actions (ETCA) projects in Tulunadu
Whether Dakshina Kannada MP is ready with a plan which includes all the above points? Is he in touch with Singapore based companies? Will KDEM help in this? Is KDEM fully geared up to promote available Mangaluru-Singapore connectivity to Singapore IT companies? How Silicon Beach Program (SBP) is planned to promote Mangaluru in Singapore? Just through KDEM or any other independent program is there? Phone calls? Taking a delegation along with DK MP to meet Singaporean IT entrepreneurs? Whether Karnataka government is now ready to accept the fact that there is an international airport in Mangaluru? So far in its promotional activities it had never identified the fact that the state has two international air ports.
Anyway, now Mangaluru's Goddess Mangala has got her Lion from Singapore to ride on, so, by all means, let us hope that the lion will ride us towards prosperity.
M’luru airport seeks point of call status amid rising demand
Quote:
"We have our coastal people working in Gulf and other countries. However, the airport has not been able to get the PoC status to date. If granted, we will be able to see many flights flying to Mangaluru. Therefore, I will soon meet the ministry to discuss the same," said Brijesh Chowta.
MIA became an international airport in 2012, and the PoC status wasn't provided to the airport since then. Aviation enthusiasts from the region expressed that PoC status must be granted to the airport, as it will further boost the aviation sector.

They could have easily proposed Kudla-Udupi districts & some North Karnataka districts. ~

Can Adani Group claim owneship of Mangaluru Airport land under the rule "tiller is the owner of the land"? When did the state government make such rules? Why not DK MP try to get clarification on ownership of airport land & airport from the central aviation ministry?

May be court will decide after 10 years if somebody files a PIL on this now.

Granting point of call status to MIA will resolve this limitation and offer significant benefits, particularly given its strategic proximity to Lakshadweep, the Middle East, and European countries, as well as its potential to serve as a hub for flights from South Asian and Southeast Asian countries connecting to the Middle East."

Delay in Singapore-M’luru direct flight: Expats propose alternative plan

Petition submitted
A petition has been submitted to IndiGo Airlines to start a direct flight between Mangaluru and Singapore. This petition will be revised to request the extension of the existing daily flight between Singapore and Bengaluru, to Mangaluru. Meanwhile, efforts for direct flight connectivity will continue, said expats. NRIs in Singapore have also contacted Singapore-based Scoot airline to start a direct flight. However, the lack of ‘Point of Call' status for Mangaluru Airport poses a challenge for international airlines.
