Such an impressive site. Can't wait to see this reach ground level. The podiums alone will be quite a site to behold.

One can imagine something similar going up on the site of the Good Companions Centre across the street - residential tower(s) with new GCC facilities in the podium.

I personally preferred the original stone that was proposed for the podium. it was a better material and offered an contrast to the aluminium panel used for the tower and also brought continuity with the material used for the library but its still a very nice looking project.

I liked it too. Reminded me of the NAC. Still quite happy with all of the changes over the last couple years.

I was initially excited for that chunky prehung panel look we know so well here but I think the 'dithered' glass looks good.

Is that dithering? I know there is a name for that pattern on glass. You see it on the edge of your front windshield and I refuse to look it up.

I'm good with the modern look. If they plant half as many trees as shown here the greenery should show better from the street level with the glass.

Is it glass or perforated metal? I'm finding it hard to tell from the rendering. It would seem to me that patterned glass would be easy to damage and complicated to replace, but metal panels are more durable and relatively easy to laser cut a replacement. Stainless steel or anodized aluminium panels would be interesting.

I just checked the site plan and here's what they call the material used for the balcony guards: Mill Finished Aluminum plate, custom perforated

Oh. That first picture really struck me as glass. I felt like I was seeing reflections of the sky. Either way, I like the semi open/exposed aspect.

It's almost hard to believe this project is becoming reality. Such a huge departure from Ottawa's conservative, bland designs. It will have such a positive impact on the skyline with the height and colour.

Based on Dream's work on Zibi, the Government funding for the affordable housing portions and the NCC's involvement, I think the chances of the final product closely resembling the design are quite high.

At this location, there needs to be windows on 4 sides! Any blank walls would be an absolute abomination. That is the shame that is the Rideau cluster. I can forgive mediocre designs but not high-visibility blank walls.

Given the architect and the developer I have high hopes for the materials here.
