Valleyview residents consider legal action over proposed six-storey building

"Craig Jefferson, who earlier this fall circulated a petition opposing the development, said neighbours are speaking with a lawyer about fighting the project, intended for a site spanning 2001, 2013 and 2019 Glenwood Dr.

He said residents have also been in touch with a Vancouver neighbourhood group which managed to halt a Kitsilano development in order to receive some guidance.

“We're going to move forward with anything we have,” Jefferson said."

“If they don't want to bring it down to four stories, then we're going to do what we can to just stop the whole thing,” Jefferson said.

****This is NIMBYism to a whole new level wow

I always get a kick out of the statement "We feel like we're not being heard". aka, the developer/city is not doing what we want them to do.

Interesting there are 362 signatures complaining about the project. Really confused on who would 'actually' be affected. The handful of houses directly bordering it would be, but the property is on O'riole Rd which is already a busy street. It's not like other residential streets will be affected by traffic. Parking could be an issue but hopefully they put in more than enough on site.

I wonder if these people know, that if the developer waits a couple years for the Falcon Rd transit exchange to be built, then they could build to 10 stories. Kind of surprised to see them possibly dragging this out till then to give the developer that option. Not sure the residents have all that much power with this one. I'd almost rather have them get shovels in the ground sooner than later if I was them.

I don't think this is a bad location for this size of building. this part of valleyview is busy and I think it would fit in well. 3 houses are turning into 120 units.

Knock it off with the political axe grinding guys or take it to the CE toilet. Those that have resorted to personal insults will be receiving suspensions.

I would recommend leaving room for a simple diamond interchange there on Highway 5.

Wow, didn't expect to see this. Very cool they're planning for a hotel/convention centre/marina right below Sun Rivers. The potential for them to finally do something with this land is there. Hopefully they follow through. Kind of seems like they will, seeing how fast they're building at Chief Louis Crossing.

I agree Metro, definitely will need an overpass in the future. That intersection is already a mess. I was talking to a friend of a friend over the holidays and the consulting company he's at is currently working on the red bridge replacement RFP. It all seems tied together since that intersection is supposed to connect to Mount Paul Way.

How cool would it be if they brought back the waterslide proposal and put it at the west end lot!

Look like Were getting a new RCMP detachment valued at $150,000,000.00

According to the report, the plan would see Mounties moved in to their new digs in 2029, with a new police parkade completed on the site the following year. During construction, officers would continue working out of the existing building at 560 Battle St. while a new one is constructed immediately next door — a five-storey tower boasting 120,700 square feet of space.

The Kamloops construction sector was red hot in 2024.

According to year-end numbers published by the City of Kamloops, builders took out $349.8 million in permits last year, making it the third busiest year on record. Only 2022 ($415.4 million) and 2020 ($395.1 million) saw the city issue a greater value in permits.

More than 60 per cent of last year’s permit activity came in home construction. The city’s Building Inspection Division issued $215.1 million in permits to residential projects. That represents a 47 per cent increase from 2023.

Commercial construction was also strong, with $119.8 million in permits issued in 2024, a 75 per cent jump from the previous year.

The report to council on that RCMP detachment was terrible. They only included floor plans, no concept drawings. Curious what they have in mind for that property for 150 million.

What's going on with the TRU overpass? Anyone heard anything on that?

New RCMP building concept. Looks like every other RCMP building. Why wouldn't they put the building on the corner instead of the parkade? Pretty unappealing to front 6th ave with a parkade, when you could have hid it to the west. Hope that gets changed.

As far as I'm aware, they would be building this new building while keeping the original RCMP building open, then once the new one is complete demolishing the old and constructing the parkade there.

That is why the new building would be in that location. Certainly an interesting decision rather than just building a new building in a different location.

Ah, that makes sense why it's not on the corner, thanks. Too bad they have to deal with the logistics of the existing building. That parkade on 6th ave is not ideal. Sinking it completely, with a park on top would have been the best. Or they could knock off a couple 'Build Kamloops' facilities and put squash courts on top of it. Would be the perfect spot to have those downtown, instead of the north shore.

Does anyone know what's being constructed on airport road on the right side (alongside the taxiway/ramps)?

Saw it on my way home from the airport, only has it's frame constructed atm.

It's probably the BC Emergency Health Services - Rotary Wing Aircraft Hangar. https://kamloops.civicweb.net/document/1...?handle=4F7B50BAA272466DA6DEC313B0796F7D

Tranquille projects:

377 Tranquille. This thing is going to be one big wall. Good thing it will eventually be hidden by the Arpa development going in on the dirt lot in front.

320 Tranquille

156 Tranquille

Thompson Landing

2nd tower at city gardens looks to be on the 2nd floor. Still no balcony railings on the first building

This joke in Aberdeen, not even sure what it is anymore, I think hotel???

1835 Rogers Place down the street started atleast a year after the previous one and has already caught up.

This is the cleanup from the Red Bridge fire. Taken from the North side of the where the bridge used to be.
