Changes look great to me, but it’s not me who needs convincing to support the project. It’s the NIMBYS that need to be convinced, and unfortunately nothing you can change will work to convince the NIMBYs. Let’s just build this tower already, there’s no need to have 10 public meetings to attempt to convert these people

It's my understanding that the alderman will have an official community meeting regarding the updated version of this project sometime mid-January, so stand-by for future NIMBY bitching.

Reminds me of 125 W Maple. Developer ended up tapping out and took their money elsewhere.

This is pretty close to the same neighborhood btw.

I’m kind of surprised the alderman isn’t having an in person meeting.

I remember that. Is if their building, when it was built, righteously blocked no one else's views at all, and as such, they are entitled to protected views forever

Property rights exist. People buy land and develop it. If you want a certain plot of land to remain empty, then buy it and maintain it/pay the property taxes for it in perpetuity. Pay up or shut up

Ah sorry, just saw that, I was on the previous page when I replied and had thought it was in December for some reason.

My God, the NIMBYs in that meeting tonight were out in full force.

Traffic, traffic, traffic, traffic, traffic, traffic, traffic. What about the traffic.

"The community has spoken" -- when only 20 people out of all of Old Town showed up.

I'm surprised this project isn't dead already. Such a crying shame this is happening in Chicago.

Unfortunately this is Hopkins ward, not Burnett's.

Ridiculous. This is why there is a housing crisis in this country. Everyone wants more homes, just not anywhere near them

So is the project basically cancelled then?

Unbelievable what's happened to our country.

It's NOT cancelled (for now). Rich white residents were begging the alderman to cancel the project in the recent community meeting as usual. Ald. Hopkins hasn't made a decision yet

Were there any Yimbys supporting the project?

There were! But none that were in person at the meeting that were able to speak directly. In the Zoom call, the NIMBYs out numbered YIMBYs in the Chat/Q&A -- but still a fair amount of people who virtually supported it.

I do wish I had gone in person to interrupt and have at least one person to support it. But I left minutes before it ended and 100% of the attendees that were picked in the crowd to speak their feedback were against it 100%

One lady literally cried and said it was "a 'monstrosity' and would absolutely destroy the charm of Old Town" Another gent was asking a ton of "What Ifs" on traffic scenarios.

The developer defended his stance selfishly as he should and gave them the given fact that Old Town hasn't built a high-rise for almost 50 years (which was astounding to learn). Last time Old Town built a high-rise was 1983. I still don't think anyone is sold on this though. It was truly astounding to see these people talk their nimbyism so much. Made me so ashamed this of this City.

Please just approve or reject this project. I’m just so tired of all these public meetings.

An alderman should not have this much power. I feel for the developer.
