Nice update. Kind of funny how the Solo building just down the south side of Lougheed Hwy seems to have stalled for some reason. This construction has surpassed it in height already and started just recently haha... now I wonder what is going on with the Solo construction down on Willingdon.

Brentwood is going to look like a dystopian city once Concord Brentwood + Brentwood Block + South Yards + Emerald Place is done.

All those towers look pretty much identical.

I'm hoping the future phases of Amazing Brentwood presents something good

The "dystopian city" aesthetic is what a lot of people like though. Me included. I love the direction the Metro is going. When we first moved to BC(from the Middle East) 25 years ago I genuinely had the impression that my third world hell hole was more developed than Vancouver

The paper mache SFH + lawn architecture is vomit inducing. I love tower clusters in the suburbs. More so than Downtown even. I think a lot of immigrants think similarly because by my count 90% of the people residing in my 38-floor building in Burquitlam are non white. I love having all the amenities I want in the same building, including charging stations for EVs, concierge, amenities etc. I love looking at the other towers. etc...

Well it'll be as dystopian as Concord Pacific's False Creek development. More bland than anything.

I tend to agree. While it'd be nice to have a bit more variety in architecture, the fact that these are new developments with current tech and amenities makes it worth it.

I lived in Seoul for a few years recently, and Metro Vancouver feels like central Paris by comparison.

Don't forget that a lot of that housing is built by Samsung, LG, or Hyundai and can be provided as a benefit to employees of Samsung, LG, or Hyundai who will be fortunate enough to have local Samsung, LG, or Hyundai stores where they can buy Samsung, LG, or Hyundai products which they produce at Samsung, LG, or Hyundai industrial complexes and are shipped around the world on Samsung, LG, or Hyundai container ships. Then when they get sick they can go to Samsung, LG, or Hyundai hospitals who make sure their loyal employees are healthy, but if they die instead they can have ceremonies by Samsung, LG, or Hyundai funerals before being buried in Samsung, LG, or Hyundai cemeteries.

"He wondered briefly what it would be like, working all your life for one zaibatsu. Company housing, company hymn, company funeral"
- Neuromancer, William Gibson (1984)

That's a few orders of magnitude closer to dystopia than we are.

Just noticed that the new London Drugs is marked out on leasing plans as "Anchor" on the plaza level in the office leasing brochure.
There's also a storage space behind Sporting Life on Level P2.
Shape really needs to fix the directory map on its website, which shows LLBean much bigger than it really is..

Some photos from earlier in December. Looks like they're doing some site clearing on the empty part where the Sears was

There were some amendments to the application earlier this year but not sure if it was formally approved. I still think it needs a public hearing?

Matcon said they started work on Tower 7 but the rest of the text is talking about Tower 6. But they do foundation/shoring so I don't think they are there for any of the current buildout of 5 & 6.

"Our teams are in the early stages on-site, gearing up for extensive excavation and shoring work."

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/the-amazing-brentwood-tower-7-rental-housing-burnaby

Just re-read this article. Towers 7 is part of phase II named phased II C.
Not clear if this is the 56 storey tower with 100% rental units or an alternative version with 61 storey and an office podium.
Parking ratio is 53% for 360 cars. That makes sense since the excavation footprint looks rather small. Hopefully that will make the progress go faster.

None so far. But when we do we will be one of the countless couples in our building with kids. There is one couple with three kids. The building is fantastic for families. We have a pool, a commercial gym, sauna, steam room, two music rooms, a library, indoor basketball court, a theater, outdoor BBQ areas, a massive park outside the building that also has a splash park (one of those things kids go nutz for) and a parkour park.... Oh and we're getting four tennis courts. Almost forgot, the building is walking distance to the recreation center and library that's under construction.

Now let me tell you about my childhood. House on a large lot middle of nowhere. Every time I wanted to do something with friends I had to walk 15 minutes to a bus stop, then travel 1 hour to get to a population center. From there we would all get into another bus and go whereever. Then at the end I'd wait at a bus depot for someone to drive me home. We had a backyard that I had to maintain (grass, paint etc). Somehow boomers think that's preferable to the heaven that is my building.
