Absolutely. A Hot Doug's Atomic and a Golden Arm are my go to.

For a while I lived in an apartment directly across the street from it. Piece was a huge selling point in moving there. Beyond the pizza, listening to the live band karaoke Saturday nights from my balcony was pretty damn delightful.

Didn't know I had a twin brother out there lurking about Chicago.

I admit I had a bad experience the first time I went to Piece, though this was almost entirely due to a server that was uhhh, almost certainly under the influence of something that wasn't alcohol. Glad I gave it another shot as it is indeed a fantastic place. Both pizza and vibes - spent a few nights in Chicago eating pizza and having some (many) beers there.

It's funny how our personal connections can dictate what we experience. I live in Chicago, but have been in Naperville maybe 5 times over the course of my life.

You don't live in Chicago, but are now likely FAR more familiar with the place than I am.

I've got a similar situation with Milwaukee. My wife's parents, her two sisters and their families all live in the western suburb of Brookfield (metro Milwaukee's version of Naperville, minus the cute old downtown). We go up there maybe 10x per year to visit them, and 9x out of 10 we never actually venture into Milwaukee itself to do stuff because we're usually just hanging out at one of family members' houses.

I'm likely way more familiar with Brookfield now than many people who live in metro Milwaukee, but rarely venture out to its far west suburbs.
I too have in-laws in Brookfield (though, mercifully, just a few blocks from the Tosa line).

I don't think I've ever been to Piece Pizza. I was actually referencing a place called Pizza Metro, which was God-awful.

Correct, that is not reality. I don't think you can put every forumer in a box regarding how we travel.

Here on the forum, we discuss population statistics, transit, urban planning, and other nerdy things. In meatspace, however, the vast majority of people don't discuss those things at all. So traveling is necessarily about something else, everything else. Personally, I have loved visiting every city I've been to, with a single exception that I won't go into. I love seeing the sights, good food, architecture, people-watching, and visiting natural attractions near every city I visit. I love cities--and not just one particular kind of city. Again, only once in my life did I visit a place and fail to find the experience mostly positive.
Same here. Been to all fifty states and almost every largish metro (still need to visit Orlando, MKE, MPLS and Detroit) and enjoyed them all for different reasons. Always make sure to hit the local micro breweries too.

I don't know where you got this. I was talking about Cincy-specific issues, simply to illustrate that affordability is more complex than home price and income/wealth.

I made no reference to "victim". I don't care if people walk around in SS uniforms. Doesn't bother me. If you're legally residing in the U.S., you've already won the human lottery. One great thing about the U.S. is there are so many different places to live. Given such broad options, I wouldn't want to raise a child somewhere with overt Christian Conservative influences, and my wife would prefer some degree of diversity. That's all. No stares if she's speaking Spanish. I don't want my child to be "saved" by anyone. In the thread context, this would greatly limit our options somewhere like Cincy. We saw some great neighborhoods, and they were all very pricey for the region.

My only assertions were that Cincy is a relatively conservative Christian metro (does any major Northern metro vote more conservative?) and that Cincy is relatively nondiverse (does any major metro receive fewer immigrants? Maybe Pittsburgh?). I don't think these are controversial assertions. I think most locals would agree on these points. Even compared to nearby Columbus, Cincy stands out on these two measures.

Yeah, we always go to gastropubs when we're traveling. Over the decades, we have found they always have the right crowd in addition to good food and brews.

It is more conservative at the metro level than most other major northern MSAs.

But like most places, the city itself is still decidedly blue. My two non-religious cousins raising their families in city neighborhoods certainly don't live in fear of the Christian Taliban "saving" their children. That's just silly fear-mongering.

And their housing costs are a — joke.

My cousin who lives in Northside bought a 2,200 SF 4 bed/2 bath home 9 years ago for $155K (now worth $290K according to zillow).

My other cousin who lives in North Avondale bought a 1,800 SF 3 bed/2 bath home 12 years ago for $105K (now worth $195K according to zillow).

When the SF49ers and Bengals were playing each other in the Superbowl in the 80s, Cincy was dubbed the poor man's San Francisco which I presume was because it had a similar topography but was much cheaper. I'm not sure why they don't consider Pittsburgh the poor man's SF for the same reason. Both Pitt and Cincy are apparently fairly conservative metros, probably because they both border Appalachia. But Cincy metro has continually grown in population while Pittsburgh has been declining since at least 1980. I think Cincy is Ohio's largest metro in population, overtaking Cleveland. But Columbus seems that it will pass Cincy soon.

I was really impressed with Cincinnati. Here's an excuse to post a pic I took from Riverwalk Commons in Covington a few years ago...

Yup and I found most cities at least have one solid gastropub where there's a good mixture of good food and ambience. I was pleasantly surprised with Boise and not at all what I expected.

^ I don't know what separates a 'gastro pub" from a regular old bar and grill, but since it was brought up earlier in the thread by Crawford as a neighborhood with no suitable places to eat, Cincinnati's Mt. Adams neighborhood is home to the Mt. Adams Bar & Grill. I've eaten there a couple times and quite enjoyed it.

Nothing fancy (which is probably why I liked it), just very solid bar food with a great atmosphere in a cozy little hilltop neighborhood.

I really love Cincinnati!

Though, thanks to this thread, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for the Christian Taliban lurking in the shadows the next time I visit.

There is a ton of overlap, but I would say that a gastropub is a bar and grill specifically for foodies and craft beer enthusiasts.

Agreed, I feel the same thing about gastropubs. Foodie-based with craft beer.

Cincy has lower immigrant share, and votes more conservative, than other metros. Not an opinion.

Yes, same with me, too. Every largish metro, most of the mid- to small size ones too, and 49 of the 50 states. (damn you North Dakota).

Compared to the Bay Area or New York, for sure but I also live in a 'relatively conservative Christian metro' and there is no overarching social conservatism unless you seek it out. Even in my very deep red suburb.

yeah, and all those occupied 25-foot-wide 3-story row homes on the east coast are cute but obviously not livable by modern standards. what a weird-—, petty post. the STL neighborhoods with these types of homes are some of the most desirable in the City. the price reduction has nothing to do with the home itself and everything to do with the current market. in any case, this is hardly the only housing typology in STL—we have loads of prewar foursquares and multifams as well.
