With Shediacs location to the highway I'd bet my money they'd want to go there. Not sure how the residents of Shediac would feel about it though.

While I don’t like Walmart and what they tend to do to smaller businesses, Shediac is seriously lacking a real electronics retailer, as well a decent clothing store with options. Walmart is a bunch of retailers in one in a sense, so in a way I’d welcome them into the town. Shediac is a booming town and I know for a fact that Nofrills and Sobeys do very well all year long. There’s room for another grocery retailer, especially that side of town… though I don’t see IGA surviving if Walmart does indeed come.

Riverview Mall, North end/magnetic hill, somewhere south in Dieppe immediately come to mind as potential locations.

New job listings are now online for Oscar Wylee Optometrist. Hiring all positions. Currently they only have 1 location in Atlantic Canada inside Halifax Shopping Centre. So they are most likely opening at Champlain Place. https://ca.indeed.com/cmp/Oscar-Wylee/jobs?q=&l=New+Brunswick

First new catch of the Westcliff era. This particular chain only has locations in selected malls across the country, so this is a pretty good catch.

We already know they're going to do a top/down renovation of the Walmart Supercentre at Champlain Place in 2025.

What are the chances we might see another Walmart in southeastern NB in the next few years?

The population in southeastern NB (Westmorland, Albert, Kent) is in the vicinity of 250,000 people. Is this enough population for a third Walmart store in the region? If so, where???

Some people think Riverview is due a store given their location on the other side of the river, but, this geographical fact also means that Riverview is somewhat isolated from the larger regional population on the north side of the Petitcodiac, and, more worrying is the fact that there is no major arterial or throughway on the south side of the river. Highway access is a big factor in the decision to locate any Walmart store. i sympathize with Riverview residents, but,I don't think it's gonna happen.

I can think of three potential locations on the north side of the river:

1) - Ohio Road in Shediac. Shediac is smaller than Riverview (for now) but lies centrally in the densely populated Northumberland shore region, and,Ohio Road is right off Highway 15, a limited access dual carriageway.
2) - Harrisville Blvd in Moncton. There is a lot of land available for commercial development on Harrisville Blvd near the Kent store. A store here would also serve the booming uptown Dieppe neighbourhood, and is strategically located immediately adjacent to Highway 15 (again a limited access dual carriageway). I have a gut feeling that development on Harrisville Blvd will take off if another anchor or two joins the pre-existing Kent store. A Walmart and a Sobeys would do very nicely in this regard.
3) - Granite Drive next to the Costco in Moncton. Would it be wise to place a Walmart right next to a Costco? I'm not sure, and, in many ways, this location would have weaker support from surrounding neighbourhoods, but, a store here would be immediately adjacent to the TCH, and would have excellent visibility for drive by traffic. People shopping at Costco might also go to Walmart at the same time. I'm more iffy on this location, but, it would be a strong option.

This is all just a thought experiment. I have no idea what will happen. I just think a regional population of 250,000 could support a third store, and, with the announcement that Walmart Canada is back in growth mode, it does make you wonder.......

Thoughts anyone????
Metro St. John's is around 250K in population and it has 3 Wal-Mart locations. Moncton should be able to support 3 stores.

The big difference is that St John's is a lot more isolated than Moncton is. St John's has the 3 in its limits + 2 more about an hour to 2 hours away, and then nothing for 500+ km or so.

Moncton has the 2 in its city limits already, plus 1 more in spitting distance with Amherst, and 6 more in a ~2hour drive range with Sussex, Miramichi, Freddy and Saint John. (not to mention the two in PEI).

Granted, Sydney has 3 in its limits, and 4 total on Cape Breton, so that would be a 'better' argument for Moncton to have a 3rd one at some point.

So that all said, I do think the signs are good that Moncton will probably have a 3rd Walmart centre in the relatively near future; probably after the Champlain Place rebuild is done. Riverview or Shediac are likely location contenders. Moncton's population growth, how busy the existing stores are, and the fact that the Maritime DC is in the city are all strong indicators IMO.

I think a Walmart in Riverview would make a killing. It would draw people from Salisbury and beyond, as well as from Hillsborough and beyond. It would be easier for people living in the west end to drive across the causeway bridge than to go to either of the other 2 Walmart stores.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this happen at some point in the future.

With the amount of new apartment buildings being constructed all over town, you'd have to think that we'll see an uptick in population growth numbers when the next estimates come out.

I went in after work to have a look around.

Inside the building, it looks like a standard home improvement store. I thought selection was lacking somewhat, and, that inventory was low, but, for the first few weeks of business, I am willing to give them a pass while they tweak things. They've certainly hired a tonne of staff!

I don't get why people thought Rona was an incredible catch, Rona was already in New Brunswick, in Edmundston they have one and it's nothing incredible. I saw this coming since the announcement. Home Depot, Kent and Home Hardware are not worried and they shouldn't. #sursaturation

The problem I see with this is that you only have one chance to make a first impression. For a Kent or Home Depot customer to check them out and not be impressed, good luck getting them back. When I went to Target my first time, it was also my last time.

The other thing is the fact that they are coming in by taking over a distinctive building and probably had to spend more to work that building into their standard plans and blueprints.

For a retailer that services visitors and/or is a destination retailer (like Cabelas/Bass Shop Pro), a distinctive building is a good thing. It catches your eye and lures curious people in.

But a Home Improvement store isn't catering to visitors nor luring out of town people in. Hell, a home Improvement store barely caters to local people. Home Imrpovement store's bread and butter are the GCs, the General Contractors building homes, doing major renovations, and so forth. And in that case, Rona is coming into a market that is quite saturated already (with Home Depot, Kent, Home Hardware and similar places), and they're burdened with a distinctive building that, let's be honest, they don't really need.

They'll probably do okay and stabilize in the Moncton region eventually; but I doubt they'll make many waves one way or another.

The only thing i found that was interesting is that they had a selection of the new Tilley brand workwear for sale. This is a Rona exclusive, made for them by Tilley Endurables.

I think this could be an attraction.

Right now they did not have much on display, but, I think there is room to grow.

On the Plaza REIT website, they show the CRU next to Dollarama in the Petitcodiac Plaza on Champlain Street in Dieppe to be leased. No indication as of yet who the tenant will be,

It was posted over on Retail Talk & Share NB that the Dieppe location of Meltwich, (that was under construction at Petitcodiac Plaza), is no longer listed on their website. It was showing as "Coming Soon" previously.
