To be fair, the majority of the Ottawa-side visible in that photo is Victoria Island, which remains frozen in time thanks to the NCC.

One of the earlier plans was to have it behind Terrace de la Chaudière where W/E II and III are u/c (I believe was the location). I don't remember all the details, but the budget was out of control, they didn't have a partner to help finance (like VMSO with Slush Puppie) and didn't include any new additional ice surfaces.

I'm hoping the Sens arena will help Le Vieux, maybe even more than a junior rink would have. The ultimate location for Slush is still a decently cool "urban" area with lots of other City services and entertainment options, and good transit. It's also near the Cegep, which might attract a lot of current and future fans.

Not likely to happen, the water running through that thing is a feature of those places.

Blocking the Ottawa river through here would explode the other channels.

Doesn't one of the channels get completely drained in the winter? I'm thinking of the southernmost one, that one of the lookouts at Zibi hangs over top of. Maybe they could divert the flow there and block off channel shown above to have a safe skating surface without rapid water flowing underneath.

They drain both regularly. Not in the winter though.
I've seen the Southern one empty a few times, including this fall. And the Northern one is drained on google maps.

We talked about this before a couple years ago. Imagine getting sucked into the dark pipe at the end of the channel, and then chopped into little tiny pieces at the end. I hate walking across these bridges, I always look downstream at the dark tunnels! That'd be the end of you! Merry christmas!

Yeah, that place has the same vibe as the Forbidden Pool in the Lord of the Rings. I wouldn't even drop a pebble in it. Not worth the risk.

Any hint of a restaurant or cafe to bring people there?

I believe Zibi's success is closely linked to the development of LeBreton Flats and a substantial increase in pedestrian traffic. Since Zibi is not designed to attract shoppers who drive in from outside the neighborhood, its viability depends entirely on foot traffic. at this stage I dont believe businesses are viable there.

A gondola from Pimisi Station to Terraces with stops at the War Museum, Albert Island, Chaudière Island and the Hull part of Zibi, would go a long way. I don't think a frequent bus route is viable due to the traffic at rush hour.

I think that a cafe would be doable, and probably something that caters to cyclists. There is tonnes of cycling traffic there in the warmer months.

The new Outaouais Museum is really going to help Zibi I think. Confederation Blvd needs to move the West end of the loop off the Portage and onto the Chaudiere Bridge to capture Lebreton, the War Museum, and the new Outaouais Museum.

Some sporadic events could definitely help liven up the plaza. I'm thinking in the summer... some small bands/jazz performance, latin dance parties, etc..
