I guess the YQR rumour for PD turned out to be UA. I'm sure YYZ-YQR with PD will come early in the new year though.

I educated myself on the "other" forum on this topic. What you say is correct but of course the question then is why Rouge the 737? Why have Rouge at all? It seems like AC is banking on lower cabin crew costs on Rouge aircraft which seems unlikely based on what the union sector has learned over the last decade with these spinoff airlines. I don't see what cabin crew (or pilots or ground handling staff or check-in counter staff) on Rouge do differently than on AC mainline. I was kind of hoping Rouge would disappear.

Well UA is willing to fight to the death with WS on YYC-IAD, it appears they don't wanna do the same with LAX. Granted WS has YYC-LAX at like 4x daily for S25 (or 5x if you count SNA) so it isn't really a surprise.

Wonder if it'll end up back at AC at some point.

I can't see the unions going along with substantial differences in pay.

The only reason I can see for Rouge at this point is to reduce inflight service.

AC inflight service is still fairly good in comparison to say Europe. On many of the European airlines they give you some free water and anything else is charged for. Maybe charge for inflight entertainment etc.

They can then keep the mainline routes at the same service level or even bump it up a notch while reducing Rouge even more.

AC have ordered 5 more 223s taking their total firm orders, including deliveries to date, to 65: https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/air-canada-orders-five-additional-a220s-842292868.html

PD effect on AC: the free beer & wine on AC's domestic & transborder networks is becoming a permanent fixture: https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/ai...comfort-and-joy-to-travel-814437201.html

It’s not just that either. AC cash cards are now at Costco when after PD did it many called it a sign of trouble.

Seriously the best plane out there in my humble opinion.

This might be one of the longest flights from LGA?

It will be, yes. Hence why only saturday service. Perimeter rule at LGA prohibits any flight longer than 1,500 miles, except on saturdays or to DEN.

Current longest flight out of LGA is to SLC. YYC will be 50 miles further.

LGA-YYC 2,032 miles
LGA-SLC 1,983 miles
LGA-AUA 1,961 miles

Due to the Saturday only restriction, a lot of these flights have come and gone. DL operated flights from LGA to LAX, LAS and PHX in the fall of 2023. None of them lasted more than a few months. Even SLC is on and off. DL seems to struggle with it. It was cut last March. They then decided to bring it back for this winter. It resumed yesterday, in fact. So these long 1x weekly routes are far from a done deal. Let’s see if YYC lasts.

It’s such a head scratcher that AA haven’t returned to YOW. The only reason I can think of is that they have to wait X # of years in order to have a 3rd party vendor. YOW’s AA staff were legacy US mainline above the wing.

It would be good for UA competition but if they were to come back it will probably just be YOW-PHL just to feed PHL. If you just want to do YOW-PHL and back it will be a $700-800 unusable price tag. Not a big loss in my eyes if they don't come back.

Yeah and PHL doesn't add many one stop destinations. Now Miami would open up Latin American. Fly United to Newark a lot and there are always people going to Mexico and Peru especially but all over Latin America.

Most likely way AA returns to YOW is (imo) they link up with Porter, which doesn't seem that farfetched given their relationships with AS and BA. PD probably launches YOW-MIA at that point and then AA does YOW-PHL and hopefully YOW-LGA or JFK.

Also kind of surprised to see AA hasn't returned to YEG either.

I would also add that DFW-YQB will be the world's longest E175 flight in service at 4 hours and 2663 kilometres (1655 miles).

https://thepointsguy.com/news/american-airlines-new-laguardia-longest-nonstop-flights/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longest_flights#Longest_passenger_flights_(by_aircraft_type)

AA is also making their 1x weekly CLT-YQB flight daily for the upcoming summer.

Condor is reported to be cancelling service to YHZ.

They've also in recent weeks increased service to YYC from 2x to 5x weekly.

This article is saying YHZ is gone along with MSP & BWI: https://thriftytraveler.com/news/airline...s%20to,from%20its%20schedule%20in%202025

LH have pushed DE out of YHZ thanks to the German courts overruling their competition bureau-equivalent, meaning LH is no longer forced to offer joint fares and other perks. Must mean these 3 markets were most dependent upon LH connections. YHZ service was going to increase this summer on DE by an extra weekly.

YYC/YEG's fares are over 2000 bucks now, could they also be cut?

For some reason this article also mentions YEG being cut
