I always think the same thing. Like what's up with the old drive-in theatre on Halston Ave? The burnt-out concession has sat there for probably 20 years. The city next to this indian reserve is like living next to a crack shack. Do better KIB.

LOL yes it will. I bet that the Pacific point project has run into financial issues. Although I did see them pumping concrete there a few days ago.

New project gets go ahead in Pine Valley next to new school.

On Tuesday, Kamloops city council will consider a rezoning application to change a large chunk of forested land from future development zoning to multi-unit medium density, making way for 180 residential housing units.

The property in question is 18.9 hectares in size, but the zoning change would apply to just 5.66 hectares, to enable a proposed development including a 60-unit apartment building and 120 townhouses, a city staff report stated.

SO...

KAMLOOPS — A $20 million dollar housing project carried the Kamloops building sector in November.

New numbers released by the City of Kamloops Building Inspection Division show $30.6 million in permit activity for November 2024, which is less than half of the $70.5 million during the same month in 2023.

However, the November permit activity pushed the year-to-date total for 2024 to $350.4 million. That’s more than a 50 per cent increase of the value of permits issued at the same point in 2023.

The most notable permit for November 2024 includes one 136-unit multi-family project worth $20 million. In total, 26 residential permits providing 153 units of housing were worth $25.3 million in November.

* I have to admit there is a fair but of hammers booming around the city right now. My wife even commented that she has no recoloration of a time where we had this number of craines up in the city.

I don't understand that Pineview development. Why would they put the multi-family at the end of the street and make it busier for the houses? Copperhead dr seems like a better location for apartments.

I was thinking the exact same thing. That'll be a shit ton of cars going through a nice neighborhood. Hopefully council has the brains to tell them that.

Councils too busy suing each other, haha. I doubt it'll come up.

I noticed another crane went up in town on the North Shore at 156 Tranquille.

ISTR, the drive-thru is like the industrial park and the land was leased. As the era of small drive-in's ended they closed and opted to permanently close rather than renew the lease. Fell back to the band office and they left it fallow. I wouldn't say the locals took care of the rest but empty structures don't hang around long if you know what I mean.

Their land. Their choice.
Tell them you know of better uses for their land. I dare you. You'd never hear the end of it. Just assume that whole side of the valley doesn't exist.

Also…I bet it would be a long walk to the bus stop. Higher density should be built near services and transit, especially apartments, for rent.

I believe that $20 million 136 unit permit is for the 2nd tower at city gardens, gonna look nice once that 2nd one has some height right beside the 1st tower.

4th street is gonna emerge as a main street for down town. Lots going on along on between Seymour and Columbia.

I believe that they’re already starting the second tower, I may be wrong but I did see a concrete pour for a building now on the first floor, I cannot confirm it as I was just glancing while I drove by lol.

Grabbed a picture today. Looks like they're on the 2nd floor slab of the 2nd tower. Hadn't been down there in awhile. Surprised they're already that far above grade. Still no balcony railings yet on the 1st tower. Curious to see them go on.
They were doing a pour on the 6 storey 3rd building that's going up as well. I was thinking downtown will probably have 3 more cranes go up in 2025. Cancer centre, Performing Arts centre, and 360 Columbia St. All pretty close to city gardens.

Everyone's favorite - Canary Lofts is forming the parkade.

Would they put up a 2nd crane for the 2nd city gardens tower or just use the existing for both you think?

Looking at the map on https://www.radionl.com/2024/12/14/124461/ it looks like it's topography that's leading the decision to put the larger apartment building at the end of the road. Less earthworks to level it out.

That totally makes sense why they did that. It feels like the city's planning department is butchering Aberdeen. They're putting multi-family higher density zoning just randomly everywhere. They know there's going to be a village centre built up there. Why not start creating that area first, and then go to random dead-end parcels after you've created a better vibe up there. It feels like an urban sprawl mess at the moment.

My wife was commenting on the number of cranes up in the city, but I think she considers the little ones as cranes. If you did count them, there is like 7-8 right now.
