I agree. It's a typical developer quality infill building on a signature site. There are a lot of empty lots that I would be happy to see this type of project but this isn't one of them. I wish they would have combined this and the hotel into a tower and preserved more of the park.

Yikes indeed. The design feels unbefitting for the site and just to be standing next to this hotel for that matter. Somehow the front facade became even less appealing to look at, I see even the HDRC made a small comment about this strange color scheme too lol

This design is honestly very solid, but a prime site such as this deserves something far more bold. I was hoping for a 20+ story design at a minimum for this site. This 10 story design is far too lacking. So continues San Antonio's curse of always being a mediocre city

Maybe the construction is more sturdy than typical 5-over-1 (as in this video), but the design aesthetic is exactly the same. It might be solid, but only in terms of construction methods.

I'd be fine with the height loss if it were at least interesting....this just blends into oblivion.

I could see this being more wavy and glassy like the Mercantile Building at least.

Yikes, this is a disappointing design. This is such a prominent corner/area with so much visibility, something that connected more with the Monarch and convention center design while incorporating some subtle details of its own is what should've been done. Of course great it'll bring more residents downtown and increase walkability. But yeah....design is incredibly uninspiring and lacking local identity.

I am just really gonna miss this view of the Tower from the Market Street when whatever gets built here is done. Lot of memories just staring at the Tower from this angle walking up to the Henry B or just passing by, and the old Convention Center right across. What an iconic landmark and one of only two observation decks in Texas (since it seems the future tallest building, Austin’s Waterline, won’t have one and the JP Morgan Tower in Houston closed theirs a while ago).

Not sure when it happened but those stagnant fountain pools under the Tower have finally been removed to make way for the new basketball courts. The soon-to-be opened Source Plaza looks fantastic.

On no, I'm going to miss those fountains. I used to use them for photoshoots since if you stood behind them it looked like it was raining. I still hope they don't remove the fountains around the Tower. I know they are supposed to go, but I keep hoping someone starts a save the fountains. San Antonians have so many memories with those fountains. Wedding proposals, actual weddings, quince portraits, senior portraits and family portraits have used those fountains as a background. So many memories!

Happy Thanksgiving! How far we've come...and how close we are yet to be.

This building is going to be a nice addition. The other one... not so much.

The not-so-great lawn, looking south.

It's a good lawn, not a great lawn.

For a lawn to be considered "great," it needs to stay green throughout the growing season. Even though we're experiencing a hot drought year, it's possible to keep the grass green, as seen in places like Phoenix.

Additionally, winterizing the lawn would be nice "have" to maintain its green appearance during the winter months.

It needs to be great in size too, like the properly named Great Lawn in Central Park.

Considering the fact people hardly know it exists behind the construction cranes and fences, eh. The walkway connecting it to Market and Alamo I believe opens by February just before the Final Four madness kicks off. Frankly if you have a moment you all should take a walk in that area and enjoy the silence…before it’s gone.

Sounds like good advice.

Civic Park will finally finish construction and open March 7th, this Friday. Ten years of development from demolition of the original Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center to Phase 2 completion.
