I haven’t heard whether tenders for work have been issued yet for any of the Portage Place work yet but I heard some companies are already bidding work for HBC bldg.

Do we know any actual timelines for the Bay? When can we expect the centre to be hollowed out? IIRC they're basically doing make work projects inside to prep for the actual work to happen.

Are they 100% go with funding? IIRC again they were short a bunch of money.

SCO on their website said asbestos abatement and selective demolition was to start in the fall of 2024 so if there is a lane blocked off it may be for staging the dumpsters.

More major demo was to start after the asbestos abatement and light demo was completed.

I'd love to see how that's going to be done.

Have there been any renders on how the exterior of the building might change? I can't imagine much more than possibly removing the old awning and the HBC logo, and maybe cleaning the surface?

I think they replace the windows on exterior and do some maintenance work on the existing finish. IIRC the canopy is a heritage element, along with most of the exterior stone work.

I would also assume they completely strip out the remaining interior finishes, electrical, mechanical, etc; and complete structural modifications, prior to hollowing out the centre.

I was in there a week ago and it was pretty wild to see it stripped down to its bones.

exterior is still in discussion....budget is always a challenge.

will have all new windows which will change its look for sure....they will look more like the original windows and be operable for the residential units.

Its really strange to be in a building big like that and see it completely empty.

I was in City Place when MPI was renovating their floors, and with none of the cube farm left in there it just echoed. You don't appreciate how big a floor plate a downtown square block is until you stand in the middle and can turn around and see out distant windows in all four directions.

I was recently told that atrium work (the hole) should start in March. The next work, early in the new year will be installing and erecting two tower cranes.
