We had some welcome rain this week and overall decent November weather. This morning is beautiful sunshine and currently, at 10 am, 3.8 c on Bedford Basin. Our low was 0.1 at 5 am and our high yesterday was 10 ish in the morning but it got colder as the day progressed. Temperatures in the coming week will be colder than normal. My begonias have put up a good fight this fall but there's little doubt that they will freeze solid this week.

Pretty much the exact same as yesterday. Wild looking clouds, which would be squalls hitting NY state. The lake is in a bad mood in general.

The past 4 days Sault Ste. Marie has received 85cm of snow. That is more than double the monthly snowfall for the month of November which is 41cm.

Environment Canada is forecasting another 60cm today before the winds shift. The snow squalls could produce close to 150cm of snow by the end of the month. The yearly average snowfall for the Sault is around 360cm. That's a lot of snow to fall in less than a weeks time.

Last year was a drier year. The Sault had less than 200cm of snow last winter season. With the warmer temperatures the snow banks at my parents place never got higher than 3 ft tall. The banks this year are already higher than that.

I was just looking at there forecast yesterday. 30cm over night, 30cm during the day. Just crazy.

That snow is falling in a fairly narrow band. Heard that Barrie didn't get anything and North Bay is bare. That info might be old now but looking at the radar right now the snow is falling in between those two points.

My in laws finally moved two weeks ago from their big Mississauga house to Penetang, 18 minutes from the cottage. About 10 years after they first floated the idea. The idea was less maintenance and obviously less property tax and some equity to bank. Well, they didn't get a snowblower yet and for some reason the house didn't come with a generator despite it only being 4 years old and built by and lived in by a carpenter. Then again, when my BIL moved up that way into a big house that was owned by the 24 year old grandson of a diamond geologist (inherited wealth), that less than 10 year old house also didn't have a generator. And of course, two weeks after they moved in, in the middle of summer, the power cut for a couple of hours while I was there. My BIL was always planning on getting one and did shortly after. He ended up moving though, 8 months after moving in.

My FIL and other BIL are shovelling frequently. I never talked to them about their plans for a blower but damn I feel sorry for them. Should have been the first item on the list!

I really hope my inlaws don't get lonely. The youngest son lives with them so there's that. But no more almost weekly visits from my wife and the kids for the next few months. I don't want them to regret it after all the hassle of looking and then trips back to the city to meet with the lawyer and all that. Plus land transfer tax and other financial factors.

The bands hitting the snowbelt are insane.

This isn't like a normal system that moves along, these just sit over these areas hour after hour. They may move a little north or south but that's about it.
