I would like to see Southwest use PDX as more of a hub going forward and that would be a great route for them.

Proposed new convenience retail at PDX was approved by the Portland of Portland Commission today (link to agenda).

New stores by operators Paradies and Marshall will include Sheridan Fruit Co, Topaz Farm, My People's Market, The Skanner and World Foods. Four retail locations will new locations built as part phase 2 of the terminal core project; five locations are existing retail units in the concourses.

Most importantly, I see mentions of the Urban Flood Safety and Water Quality District. Suddenly my vote seems important! What is this thing I vote for with extremely limited info on the candidates and what this agency even does.

Sounds like it’s saying some already exist in the concourses.. or are they saying they’ll lease space in existing retail spots along with new spaces in the main terminal? Anyway cool to see these types of businesses opening.

The five spaces colored red in the concourses are existing; the four spaces colored blue in the central terminal are new.

Allegiant adds Nonstop Portland-Indianapolis, Flint, MI., Cincinnati, Fresno flights

All begin in May 2025.

This brings Allegiant to 10-nonstop destinations from PDX.

This is actually pretty exciting for me. My parents are really close to Flint Bishop. I took the PDX -> Grand Rapids route this past summer and it was almost half the price of Delta flights to Detroit at about the same driving distance up to the Tri-Cities. Bishop will only be about an hour drive for them.

That’s pretty awesome. If I’m not mistaken, we haven’t had Cincinnati nonstop since the Delta hub days of the 1990s.

Alaska Airlines has announced year-round daily flights between Redmond Municipal Airport and Portland International Airport, following strong demand from both business and leisure travelers.

For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, Alaska Airlines is resuming year-round daily service between Redmond Municipal Airport and Portland International Airport.

Redmond, OR –Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air has modified its service between Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM) and Portland International Airport (PDX) from seasonal to year-round daily flights. This change reflects the strong business demand and airline’s commitment to smaller communities like Redmond, ensuring vital air service for Central Oregon residents and businesses.


The new year-round schedule includes one non-stop flight every day of the week, with a second flight added on peak travel days to meet increased passenger demand. Flights from RDM to PDX are primarily scheduled in the morning and midday, while flights from PDX provide convenient midday to end-of-day service.

Thanksgiving weekend at PDX to see major increase in Alaska Airlines passengers

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – If you’re planning on traveling through the Portland International Airport over Thanksgiving weekend, you may want to start making a game plan now.

Ahead of the upcoming holiday season, Alaska Airlines said they expect an 35% increase in travelers, or 85,000 passengers, at PDX during the last weekend of November.

“In Portland, Alaska is expecting to see the largest surge in passenger volume across its network for Thanksgiving Weekend,” an airline spokesperson said, meaning the percentage increase of passengers at PDX will be greater than anywhere else on the West Coast.

Kind of a weird stat for them to announce, because they don't say why. I'm not sure I've ever see a Thanksgiving travel stat that is more than just the fluff "busiest travel day of the weekend" type of stuff, which is across the board nationally. What is the reason PDX is "surging" this weekend more than other airports?

Alaska announced a big increase in flight offerings a few months ago for pdx, I think a 25 percent increase in capacity. Not sure when that all takes place but perhaps that’s contributing to this. They cut back too much during the pandemic.
