First train delivered to the Moodie Yards along O-Train Stage 2 West. Could be another year (more or less) before the the tracks are connected with the existing O-Train Line 1, so this will allow them to start testing well before that happens.

Between the 🞵🞵🞵🞵 shows in Ottawa and Calgary maybe it's a good thing Winnipeg is too poor for an LRT lol. Seem to be nothing but trouble lately.

Progress along Ottawa's Line 2. This was part of the pilot O-Train project that opened in 2001. In 2020, it shut down for what was supposed to be two years for upgrades and expansion. Four years in, it still hasn't opened, but we've been told it should happen this year.

Jennifer Keesmat had a post on IG today that the Finch West lrt is basically ready to open soon. Now everyone is speculating when that could be as it is desperately needed!

Instead of posting about a new system, this video is from 1985 and the start of Skytrain in Vancouver.

The original route of Skytrain followed a long abandoned interurban rail route. It has subsequently expanded and additional lines have been added.

The induction motor technology was quite new. Toronto used that technology for a number of year.

The fully automated system quite innovative in its day.

If you like that one, you will probably like this one.

Seeing people wear that clothing, the buses and cars of the time, make you feel old. Quite weird. Downtown skyline is remarkably different.

Radio silence on it. Driver training is in full swing however so opening can't be too far away.

I suspect Ford will announce an opening right before he drops the writ for an election.

You think he'll hold back the opening just for political gain? Sounds like something he'd do. Sounds like something most politicians would do.

He's the kind of guy who would meddle in municipal jurisdiction and rip up bike lanes just because they affect his personal commute to Queen's Park, and then draft legislation to make it so people who get injured on roads that formerly had a bike lane his government ripped up can't sue the provincial government so, yeah, I think he would hold back the opening of not one, but two (the Finch West LRT is the other one) LRT lines purely for political gain.

He has to play his hand fast, though. With Trump in the White House, and the Federal election happening sometime in 2025 with Poilievre inevitably winning, Ford has to schedule an election sometime before the summer to have all the stars align. Ontarians vote for the opposite party provincially than federally, and Ford is very long-in-the-tooth at this point. He's been in power for 7 years, through Covid (most governments that were in power during the entirety of the pandemic are getting dumped, left and right, across the Western world right now), and his motto "Get it done" is ironic considering that he will not have attended any major ribbon cuttings in his 7 years in office.

I strongly suspect that Ontario's Provincial Parliament won't return from winter break before an election is called. But again, Ford, so who knows what the timing will be!

I doubt that he's actually delaying the Crosstown but it's almost a certainty they know what the opening date will be internally. Or at least within a pretty narrow timeframe. ALL comms on the Crosstown have to go through the Premier's Office which is not exactly the norm for a transit project. Agreed with the above that the opening date will be part of an election campaign.

Not the thread for it but this timing also lines up with the campaign against bike lanes. Who knows what the final outcome will be but I can see the Etobicoke sections of Bloor W being removed quickly, and possibly Yonge. The rest can be delayed and eventually fall out of the public eye. This would also line up with statements that Doug made today about Olivia Chow being in favour of removing Bloor W - which I doubt are true but a backchannel deal to let those go as part of the ongoing New Deal process is certainly possible. Keeping in mind that when Doug says "Bloor W" he really means Etobicoke.
