Birmingham, Alabama has already had 122 this year. Its population is only 200,000 so that would give it the highest rate in the country if this year's trend continues.

Toronto at 66 with three months to go. Normally this would be the total for the year.

Philly ended September with just 10 murders on the month. That's the lowest monthly total since April 2015.

At 199 on the year, down 41% from the year before, and 53% from the high point in 2021.

Quote:
The decline has also been seen citywide: Some of the city’s most traditionally violent police districts — covering parts of North Philadelphia, Kensington, and Northwest Philadelphia — have seen year-to-date homicides drop by nearly 70% compared to three years ago.

And in September, there wasn’t a single homicide recorded in 16 of the city’s 22 police districts.

The trend has not been limited to fatal shootings. Shootings in which someone was struck by a bullet but survived have declined by 37% compared to last year, the analysis shows.

I'm sure Alabama's old bag Governor Kay Ivey has new and novel ways to help the good people of Birmingham.

Mayor and LAPD chief tout double-digit drop in homicides compared with last year

Mayor Karen Bass highlighted the numbers Tuesday at an early morning news conference at Watts Labor Community Action Committee Center, a jobs and social services nonprofit. Bass said that through the first week of December, there were 266 people killed citywide, a decline of 15% compared with the number slain in the same period in 2023.

The decrease was even more dramatic — a 28% drop — when measured against numbers from 2022 when violence ebbed after the first two years of the pandemic. The latest figures show that the number of shootings in which someone was struck but not killed fell by nearly 19% when compared with 2023, while gang-related homicides fell by more than 50%.

Chicago finally back down near pre-pandemic norms.

But still atrociously, stubbornly high, generally speaking.

2018 - 545 (19.8 per 100K)
2019 - 506 (18.4 per 100K)
2020 - 780 (28.4 per 100K)
2021 - 795 (28.9 per 100K)
2022 - 693 (25.2 per 100K)
2023 - 582 (21.2 per 100K)
2024 - 556 (20.2 per 100K)

LA ended at 268, a huge drop from 2022 and a good drop from 2023. 6.86 for the city.

The valley's murder rate is 2.2 for 1.8 million (40 murders wow). Maybe Manhattan beats it? I dunno

That must be the lowest in america
