The Moody Center in Austin has a relatively small footprint of just under 7 acres. So, that at least gives one an idea of the space needed. However, the Moody Center does not have a parking lot or garage directly adjacent to the arena. So, that might need to be figured in on total land required.

My one question is: What's up with the roof of the Alamodome? Hopefully they're not planning on cutting a hole in the roof and making it open air. It would get SO HOT in there.

It seems the Convention Center garage is on the chopping block? It was also mentioned the SAWS chilled water plant would be moved 'several blocks north'...maybe where that mini ferris wheel was supposed to go.

Another part of my childhood gone. My dad would always park there when we went to Spurs games when I was a kid. But this is certainly progress, so I accept it.

THIS IS FANTASTIC!!! I'm happy to see that the city is thinking big about this project. Looking at all the renderings im very pleased with the placement of most of the buildings. My only gripe is that the missions ballpark isn't being built in this area as well. I feel like its not going to be maximized being over by the San Pedro creek.

Now the only suggestion I would like to make is in regards to Mass transit to and from the District. I propose the city utilize the train tracks that run next to the Alamodome, and run a light rail line from the Frost Bank Center parking lots to the Alamodome. Fans could park on the existing lots then ride the train to the district. That's 20,000 people right there that don't park downtown.

This is somewhat more transit related, but here is the map for the two Advanced Rapid Transit lanes that would basically intersect at Project Marvel. Imagine having (mostly) dedicated transit lanes and articulated buses with a lot of passenger capacity as you come and go to events downtown. Lots of parking available on the North (Stone Oak Park and Ride) and East (current Frost Bank Center) sides of those lines. Not as familiar with West and South (Brooks Transit Center) but assuming you could also build out or utilize parking along the lines.

I never thought I'd live to see the day that a downtown parking garage gets demolished.

That cap over 37 will be quite a hill, considering the highway is already mostly above grade.

The convention center expansion looks like it will make that terminus of the river walk a positively subterranean experience. Maybe they'll do it up like a cave, that would be fun.

The Alamodome looks like a sagging cake for a child's fourth birthday.

I'm glad they're keeping the former courthouse. That's an interesting hemisfair building, unlike the concrete bunker of the ITC. And they're making it another event venue even though the Lila Cockrell Theatre is right there and totally unused. Downtown San Antonio has so many event venues, and so few events!

When I posted this my browser asked if I wanted to view the page in Portuguese or English. I chose English and it changed the word "subterranean" in my post to "underground".

If you zoom in on the aerial view image, it looks like the roof cut out has glass panels. Maybe some retractable window screens could help with heating/cooling issues.

Don’t get hung up on concepts. None of these are official renderings, just a thought of what could be. The reception to this seems pretty positive. I’m excited for this to come to fruition.

I'm so ready for this to be fast-tracked. The amount of connections to the street. The pedestrian experience. I also noticed they would move the historical houses by 37 to the lot by the federal building, which I feel is a nice touch. Hopefully they can tear down that federal building as well.

I know it may take some time for the casual voter to get behind as most people start mentioning street fixes, highways, and potholes. The city will have to just do it if they can get the funding without raising taxes. Otherwise, they will have to explain how this will be beneficial in the long run and that's extremely complicated.

I hope the new convention center hotel does not look like this. It needs to be taller. It should also have green space in front of the convention entrance instead of just one whole block of building mass. It just seems a little long... but then again this is SA most of our buildings are long.

Long time lurker here. Well, kind of. Anyway, you have to have the vision first and this certainly does it. Aesthetics aside this scheme and location addresses many things that usually get brought up. Your not depending on this to develop the surrounding areas. They are already there. Bars and restaurants already exist not only at Hemisfair but at the renovated La Villita, Southtown and Riverwalk. More would be added. For those who complain about parking, if you currently park on Lot 6 or 7 or down the street on Houston, that's the same distance as walking from Parking Lot C at the Alamodome to the new arena location. Similar for surrounding areas. I'm sure there would be below grade parking but that will most likely be for higher priced ticket holders. I'd love to see the existing Alamodome park and ride reactivated.

Maybe we could finally rename the Alamodome. I mean it's not a dome.....

Welcome! Perhaps if the Frost Bank Center could be dubbed 'the Icebox' (Frost? cold? get it?) the Alamodome could be the Birdbox, proud home of the UTSA Roadrunners! XD

On a serious note, while there is much warm reception to Project Marvel and what it could be, I've heard and read a lot of negative feedback online and IRL referencing the roads, the schools, the etc arguments against development. It's very important that when the time comes we if we're able to VOTE for this to be approved (inevitably some aspects will be) and to push back on the NIMBYs wholeheartedly this time until we see the cranes go up.

SAN ANTONIO IS WORTHY, DAMNIT!!! A new day is possible for downtown! The UTSA School of Hospitality alone makes this worth it. Students by the thousands (who will soon many have free tuition!) go to school at the Convention Center, graduate...then go right to work!
