Interesting to see that they are polling more in N.S. than NB. Again, will be interesting to see how it trends with more polls.

Abacus Data just expanded into Halifax with a new Atlantic Canadian headquarters in Downtown Halifax.

I think this tidbit of information is telling, that both Trudeau and Pierre Poilievre are not popular in Nova Scotia.

It's a shame the similarly militant activist from the other side of the linguistic debate had not been relegated to the back benches with his mouth shut rather than running the province for the last 6 years.

The electorate spoke. He revealed his true colours.

The political system corrected itself.

Hoping for sanity to prevail south of the border tomorrow too.......

We haven’t seen the last of Faytene. She attempted to run federally for the conservatives, and I can see that she’d try again.

Well, if she signs up a bunch of her acolytes and steals the Conservative nomination in Saint John, that will guarantee at least one Liberal seat in southern NB.

Whoever wins the conservative nomination will have an actual race on their hands. I wouldn’t expect a coronation in the least here.

Unlike her opponent in Hampton not recognizing that nominations can be highly contested.

Thought it was pretty widely known that the CPC was parachuting a hand picked candidate into Saint John? Or are you talking about Fundy Royal?

Fundy Royal is about as much of a sure thing as you can get in this province. This riding or whatever riding had covered most of Albert County has voted conservative for over 100 years with the exception of 1993 and 2015.

I have no idea where she'd try to hang her hat. Just know she is quite motivated. Achieving second place and 200 or so votes back isn't a result to scoff at.

Spiritually, she'd be a better fit with Bernier's party of misfits.

US 2024 Presidential Election: Who will be better for New Brunswick?

Team Holt and Team Kamala seem like a better outcome than Team Trump.

With the surging ndp (somehow forgetting Dexter's government...) not surprising that Singh is helping out.

I understand shunning Trudeau these days; but Pierre? Interesting approach.

338 has Zach Churchill fighting for his seat; and the perennially Liberal seat of Clare also going blue.

It was suggested at the time Steeves withdrew that the parachute candidate was Melissa Young.

No idea if that was/is accurate.

Nice move of transparency from Holt here, with mandate letters going out to the entire cabinet and publishing them for the public to read.

https://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/corporate/government_websites/mandate-letters.html

Between this, the weekly videos (of whats ahead), and setting the expectations on realistic timelines for some of her early policy changes (84-20, gas tax cut, power tax cut), it makes you realize how we've just become trained as a society that our politicians rarely ever talk to us or the media. Its become to baked into society that we assume its normal politics to never deliver press conferences, address citizens, or answer questions from reporters.

Lets hope this continues and can be the default from our premiers office instead of the exception

Whether you support the party in power or you dont, we should always expect our leaders to be communicating with us as much as possible.

N.B. to implement 3% rent cap on Feb. 1

Quote:
“New Brunswick’s new Liberal government is moving ahead with its promise to implement a rent cap.

Rent increases will be capped at three per cent annually as of Feb. 1, 2025, the province announced on Monday.

“New Brunswick renters need access to affordable housing,” the province said in a post on social media.

“This measure will help protect renters from rapidly increasing housing costs and eliminate surprise rent hikes.”

More details about the rent hike will be released later in the week, said the provincial government post.

On the campaign trail, the Liberals said the cap would be reviewed annually based on inflation and vacancy rates.

A rent cap was in place temporarily under the previous Progressive Conservative government but it was removed months later after the government said it deterred developers from creating new rental units”.

Agreed. She’s a night and day difference compared to Higgs regarding their communication styles. Hope the results are night and day difference too.

I agree with you but the cynic in me has to wonder if this isn't just the honeymoon period? I hope I am wrong as so far their attitude has been very refreshing.

I think a couple of things will tell the tale.

One would be the first time they screw up. Do they own it and apologize or do they do the traditional political coverup, deny, spin thing ?

Secondly, do they have the political will to make some of the tough decisions (especially around healthcare and education) that will be unpopular in certain areas of the province or among certain groups?

It is certainly the honeymoon period, but that doesn't lessen their outreach efforts (much). They're setting a standard for government communication now, and there will be a lot of pressure to maintain those levels once the honeymoon is over. (And the news about the budget shortfall is already a sign the honeymoon period may not last very long; but the blame for that will fall on Higgs at least).

How she and her government handle the inevitable screwups and the tough decisions will be telling.

At least she has a strong majority. Hopefully she'll recognize she does have some harsh calls to make coming up, and she realizes she needs to decide on them early, so there will be time to recover from those hits and to move forward.
