A woman who lives near the American Iron and Metal scrapyard in Moncton says a plan to build a wall out of shipping containers as a sound barrier is foolish.

The only solution McCarthy sees is a shutdown and relocation.

I agree with the enraged neighbours. AIM has already proven themselves to be poor corporate citizens unresponsive to municipal oversight, provincial legislation or neighbourhood concerns. They lost all credibility with the massive fire on the Saint John waterfront. Their operating licence should be revoked, and, their operation moved out of town.

I see there are currently three new buildings under construction in the Moncton East Business Park.

Also, I see paving and curbing is going on in the Harrisville Logistics Park (SW corner of the TCH/Rte 15 interchange, off of Shediac Road). 82 out of 124 acres within this new industrial park have already been pre-sold.

Moncton PAC agenda indicates a new five storey 44 unit apartment building is under consideration for 74 Mill Road.

Signage has been installed for Nancy Nails beauty salon in the Sobeys Plaza on Elmwood Drive, next to Pet Valu.

Anyone else think a traffic circle at granite drive and Elmwood drive would create better traffic flow? It would allow a lot less pileups in the lane for costco in my opinion though I don't know how the city feels about them in three direction areas like this one.

No chance imo, the there is way too much traffic for them to consider that. Traffic going to Costco would monopolize the circle and it would just bottleneck the people going to town from Irishtown during weekends and around supper time.

I tend to agree. Given all the outbound traffic heading for Granite Drive, I would think there would be a constant backlog of inbound traffic on Elmwood waiting to enter the roundabout.

I think the current situation where there are two northbound left turning lanes on Elmwood leading to Granite Drive works pretty well.

The main problem really is the amount of traffic on Elmwood in general. I think Elmwood is busier than Mountain Road these days. This will not improve until the new TCH/McLaughlin interchange is built. This will decompress the traffic somewhat, especially WRT Granite Drive.

Anyone know why there's only one lane, no pedestrian walkways and no lights on the Harrisville road from Kent to the Shediac road?
It's extremely dangerous for a pedestrian or bikers on that road.

Harrisville is supposed to be completely rebuilt in the next few years. I'll look a lot like Mapleton when it's done.

Welcome to the forums.

The entirely of Harrisville Blvd fro the TCH southbound to Highway 15 is tremendously underbuilt (especially compared with how well Dieppe Blvd has been planned). It is a shame, and, yes, I agree that it is dangerous.

I think it is because it is "the accidental highway" that really was never intended to have been built. It just sorta "happened."

The TCH overpass at Harrisville was intended, but, was privately financed and built by MID as the main entrance into the Caledonia Industrial Park.

Dieppe Blvd was also intentionally built as the linchpin of the planned Uptown Dieppe neighbourhood.

Harrisville Blvd was only built because it was realized it might be nice to have an intervening connector for commercial traffic between the Caledonia and Dieppe industrial parks. It was never envisioned as anything more than just a truck route.

They were wrong.

Dieppe Blvd/Harrisville Blvd has morphed into the main crosstown route for the eastern part of the metropolitan area. Dieppe has kept pace by continually improving Dieppe Blvd. Moncton city hall however still seems to think of Harrisville Blvd as just a truck route, hence, no bicycle lanes or sidewalks, and, only minimal lighting.

Moncton city hall has to smarten the hell up.

Really! This is news to me (but I trust you completely on this). This is very good news. City hall has missed the boat on this file for the last 15 years or so. I'm glad they realized they were wrong.

I wonder how much of a wrench in their plans Moncton High was? You have to think that if they never had to rebuild parts of elmwood north of the TCH that they would have rebuilt another road instead. I know there is usually some sort of internal long term plan, so I imagine they were just doing damage control after the province blindsided them.

I assume with the new land that has been bought down the Glengrove and the road that is suppose to come out next to the TCH, they'll have to get something done for Harrisville BLVD.

Seems like the developpers have started to cut down trees for the road. I see it when I walk in the trails (humphrey Brook).

the connection between warner street and mariott drive is well underway. i also noticed that there's a foundation being built right besides the fairfield inn. anybody know what's going there?

AIM is a joke... sorry y'all gotta deal with them. They terrorized the West Side of Saint John for years, and multiple employees died. Their CEO is a POS and hopefully they GTFO out NB, or at the very least get out of our cities.

I have a better answer for you.

The City of Moncton received an application to construct a four-storey apartment building at 30-32 Marriott Drive. The apartment building will consist of 63 residential units.

The property is zoned HC (Highway Commercial). The proposal requires the following applications:

1. Conditional Use Application
a. To permit more than one main building on a lot.

2. Variance Application
a. To reduce the flankage yard setback from 18m to 15m in one location;
b. To remove the requirement to provide brick on the north and south elevations of the main building; and
c. To permit the garbage enclosure within the side yard setback.

As you can see, there are two apartment buildings planned for this lot. They will be interposed between the Fairfield Inn and Highway 15. The urbanization of the Highway 15 corridor between the Dieppe traffic circle and the cloverleaf intersection with the TCH continues at a rapid pace.

This hasn't been confirmed it's nothing more than a rumour being pushed by staff at the igloo from one unknown source from GCD. I'm doubtful
