I see they're proposing a stormwater pond adjacent to the railway. If that's approved there is no chance of any type of connection through there.

It does show Princess Auto leases a strip of land from teh City along the railway east of Panet. So the City could get a pathway through there to panet at least.

Small tidbit,

I'm a member of the granite curling club, and saw this in the club newsletter recently:

"We will also be facing some challenges, particularly the proposed construction of an apartment building on the west side of the property, However, your Board will be working diligently to defend the Club’s interests and to reach a mutually acceptable arrangement with the City of Winnipeg.".

There wasn't any other detail provided, and I'm not clear what piece of land they're actually referring to. Still I don't think that whatever this is has been public before so thought I'd share, and will update if I can find out more.

The parking lot maybe? Could be leased not owned by the club?

That was my first thought too but the city's property assessment map shows it all as one big lot, then west of that there's the park and beyond that existing apartments.

I really, really, really hope the newsletter meant to say 'northwest side of the property' and some of the massive Canada Life parking lot gets developed (wishful thinking, I know).

Who owns the greenspace where the Beer Can is? Maybe they typo'd West when it should have said East. Odd. The lots around the club all seem spoken for.

As an aside, that park has become fucking abysmal. I live in the neighbourhood and the encampment there is out of control with bike chop shops and open fires now.

Good eye, I thought that was the park itself, but on maps it looks like the park is the riverbank. The city must have an easement for access to the river on that lot. For the love of God please fill it up.

The City owns that land as 'vacant park' designation. I'd be up to them developing it if they keep the part along the riverbank. And then take the land along the riverbank heading west and connect a proper pathway through to Cornish.

A mixed use path beside the building would be plenty. They should connect this properly to Cornish. That said, it'll just open up more riverbank to encampments at that point.

There's a trail through the trees along the north side of the river from Cornish to the trail behind the Granite (at least there used to be).

I remember biking through there about five years ago and there were encampments in the forest back then.

This shows the property as 48 Granite Way. It has a 3/4" water service that was renewed in 1994. I can't find if there was ever a building there, but usually a water service is accompanied by a sewer service. I don't know if the property is owned by the city or not. Maybe the project is on the west side of Balmoral where all those big houses are?

The water service could be for the park maintenance or something.

The waterline is probably going to the Colony Flood pumping station to the west of the club's parking lot. I think that most pumping stations have a water supply for priming the pumps and general washing down.

Talking about the green space I believe that Mostyn Park wraps the curling club in a U shape so there would have to be a major vote of council to declare any of the park surplus for development.

I have not hear of that happening in this location as the city usually wants to keep riverbank property.

I saw a drill rig working in that lot a couple of weeks ago. Soil tests perhaps?
