That LA County/Gas Company tower purchase is some foresight on the county’s part, as we just voted to increase the representation from 5 county supervisors to 9 county supervisors and an elected executive position (I know none of the existing supervisors actually wanted this though). Each one of these new supervisors and executive will have their own staff and will need their own rooms. The Hall of administration was completed in 1960 when the population of the county was 6 million. We now have 9 million people. This tower will be put to good use.

Pershing square phase 1 is moving along. That whole western portion is under construction and they have added in the new elevator shafts to the below ground parking structure. I’d say phase 1 looks over 50% complete.

I was at Grand Central Market this evening and I was shocked to see it has reached the status of a full-fledged tourist attraction. Its latest additions are a few photo booths and a shop selling “Grand Central Market” branded apparel and tchotchkes. It was poppin tonight.

I drove through downtown Saturday ( all of the freeways heading west were packed so decided to get off on 4th on the 101 and cut across to get to Korea town).

Surprised how Vibrant it was from Arts, all the way to the core. And. Another thing i notices, Along 3rd. A MASSIVE reduction of tents and homeless people. Decided to take a side street in skid row and the tents are way lower in numbers than they were before. As someone who part time works with the homeless, I can honestly say i have no idea where they went because they for sure have not entered any of my companies housing programs.

To be fair, Inglewood had a 🞵🞵🞵🞵-ton of developable land. But I would welcome an aggressive push by LA to get things built downtown.

Meh…to be fair, let’s give credit where credit is due. You probably can’t name more than 5 mayors who are as aggressive…and the plethora of parking lots in DTLA aren’t exactly historical sites.

Also, the transformation in Inglewood is nothing short of amazing! And the fact that things have and are coming to fruition.

I'm unfamiliar with the mayor of Inglewood. What did he/she do that Los Angeles could do?

I do know that having that massive Hollywood Park Racetrack (260 acres!) available for redevelopment into SoFi stadium, the YouTube theater, offices, etc. was a game changer for Inglewood.

Does anyone know what happened to the Garfield Building on 8th and Olive being sold and turned into a hotel? I noticed the SOLD sign was down a few months ago. The exterior looks more forlorn than ever. Are downtown boutique hotels at the saturation point?

A key Los Angeles City Council committee signed off on a sweeping rezoning plan Tuesday that would focus new market rate and affordable housing on commercial corridors and in existing dense residential neighborhoods.

The effort is in response to state housing mandates that seek to alleviate the housing crisis by requiring the city find land where an additional 255,000 homes can be built and have the plan in place by mid-February.

In hours of public comment, members of the Planning and Land Use Management Committee heard from Angelenos who wanted to preserve single-family-home neighborhoods and those who wanted to open the areas up to more development to reduce economic and racial segregation.

I’m not sure if you’ve been actively participating since you’ve been a member on here, but those things take some time. We might hear information by the summer of 2025. But, it could be 3 years before we see actual movement. You can look into the company’s website to see if they are finishing up other projects though.

So several floors at the top of Olympic + Hill are notably taller than the main floors. It's not just the penthouse--there are eight or nine tall penthouse-like floors if I am counting correctly. I haven't seen Onni do that before.

Maybe not as dramatic as this one, but Onni's 825 Hill is somewhat like that as well. Starting at floor 40-something, the ceiling heights are a foot or so taller than the lower floors. Not penthouse heights like this one though.
