The fact that a person from St. John's (Canada, Newfoundland) remembers with horror the summer heat of his city and that, consequently, he is happy for the arrival of winter, is the clear and evident demonstration that in life everything is relative.

If Palermo experienced a summer like the one recorded in St John's in 2024, the people of Palermo would remember that year as the "year without a summer"

Oh, even people born and raised here would agree. But I was dealing with a greenhouse of an office that was inching close to 40C even on cloudy days, full mental breakdown. We even had building closures because of the heat.

It was genuinely a mentally rough summer.

Yes, I remember that this summer you were suffering from the heat in the office where you work. I was surprised that even in St John's (as in Sicily) an apartment or an office without air conditioning could record such high temperatures

Oh that's not surprising. Architecture is substantially different. We have one church here that was built for a more Central European climate, but at the outbreak of WWI, we were no longer friendly with whichever Germanic country it was going to, so it was erected here instead. The congregation basically bankrupted itself trying to heat it in winter. It's designed to — the hot air out lol

It's like 20C in London versus 20C in Nice. Feels very different indoors, in general.

And my office is an 80s shitshow with lots of giant, domed skylights, the size of a camper van every so often.

The rain held off until suppertime so it wasn't too bad of a day to be out and about.
Raining cats and dogs right now, though.

Tuesday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 11 C, the low was 8 C.

Yesterday's high was 9.2, first single digit high of the season. Currently 5.5 degrees going up to 11 with sunshine.

I believe that in the coming years due to the rising global temperatures, you will have to provide for the renovation of buildings to withstand the hotter summers.

-3C and partly cloudy in Moncton at 8 AM, only getting as warm as +1C this afternoon.

Another chilly day tomorrow, then warming up modestly with rain and gloom for the next week.

So, I'm in Hong Kong right now, and Typhoon Signal No. 8 is about to be hoisted at 11:10pm. That's when almost everything shuts down. Shops close, buses, trams and ferries end service, MTR and light rail operate at reduced headways. It's only a tropical storm at this point but it will pass within 150km of Hong Kong overnight, hence the signal.

This is the latest T8 signal in Hong Kong history, and only the third November T8 on record. It's pretty remarkable to have a tropical storm so late in the season, and there was already a lower typhoon signal for a separate storm last week, and more storms are brewing east of the Philippines.

And the assault on my pumpkins continue. Like I said before, almost always had pumpkins out for the 9 halloweens I’ve been in this house and this has never happened before. Now it’s three times this year.

0C and partly cloudy in Moncton at 8 am.

Temperatures will stay steady all day, but, a retrograding "warm core low" will arrive from the east this evening, bringing precipitation (initially ice pellets and freezing rain, transitioning to rain as the temperatures warm overnight).

This is a very unusual and intense system. Even though the prevailing winds will be out of the northeast, temperatures will rise overnight. A special weather statement has been issued for waves up to 5M in height within the gulf and the Northumberland Strait, causing a real risk of coastal erosion.

Gloom and wet weather for the remainder of the forecast period.

The fall/winter transition period usually is one of the stormiest periods of the year in the Maritimes. This lasts from mid November to early January. Usually when the winter weather pattern is finally established, we experience cold but sunny weather for the remainder of the season (until March).

It's been pretty wet on the south coast these days. Flew to Kelowna last night thinking I'd escape the rain for a couple of days, but it's raining in the Okanagan as well.
At least everything is green, I guess.

It seems to have ben way wetter and warmer than a normal November.

Vancouver and Victoria haven't even made the freeze list yet!

And the weird weather seems everywhere. I follow this Youtube channel, Austria has minimal snow on the Alps and what's on the slopes often seems to be from snowblowers working 24/7!

So. Much. Rain. It just will not stop.

My backyard weather station is at 98.81 mm over the past week or so.

Edit: Still loudly raining. Two relatives now have leaking roofs. I assume the leaks were there, just we've not had enough for the water to pool behind their ceiling paint until now.

Good eye prairie guy! Yesterday I saw this ship — at or near Richmond Pier which is where the cable laying ships tie up. Today we maxed out at 3.2 under mostly cloudy skies. Just an all around blah day. Holland America sent notice of their black Friday sale so it's time to start planning an escape.

An absolutely miserable day, rainy and windy.

Day and night temperatures reversed two days in a row
