YQM Country Fest is becoming one of the go to summer concert events in eastern Canada. Meanwhile, the Magnetic Hill Concert Site is doing nothing but growing weeds.

Magnetic Hill is a dead venue. It is well away from the core of the city, with difficult access, and no surrounding amenities. It would make sense to start over with a new venue closer to downtown. Placing such a venue where Hal Betts is now would only make sense.

Atlantic Nationals could be held there. The Moncton Highland Games uses Hal Betts now. They might like a more coherent venue absent of fences and pitcher mounds. How about craft fairs, like the Victoria Park Craft Fair? Rib Fest would be another natural for this site. How about the Bill Lynch shows when they come through a couple of times a year. Add in a major music festival and a couple of other assorted concerts each year and you would have a well utilized site.

It would essentially become the Moncton version of the Halifax Commons.

Having an events venue next door would certainly be good for any businesses locating in the podiums of the Three Sisters and the Gateway Towers, and, might help stimulating other new businesses as well.

Win, win, win.

Of course, if Hal Betts is forced to move to the dump site, the city will have to make sure that the new sports complex is even better laid out than the current one. The entrance to the "new" Hal Betts would obviously be off of an extension to Assumption Blvd. I think a pirpose built new sperts complex here might be fantastic.

Well you certainly have me excited! That would be a really cool venue. I love the fact that we can have good competition with our neighboring communities as this elevates the entire region, not to mention to make downtown Moncton as a more happening spot. They'd be wise to have a mini site if this is what they are going for where people can check for updates to see what and when things are coming to the venue.

I believe I have previously brought up the idea of moving the ball field to the old dump. I can’t remember if it was here or on retail talk and share. I’ve often thought that an amphitheater would be a really good use of old dump site. This makes more sense as a concert venue would make more sense closer to downtown. I think that a larger sight would be preferable imo. Something closer to 10,000. I travel to New England every summer for concerts because NOTHING comes here. Bangor & Portland in Maine, Gildford and Hampton Beach in New Hampshire, Boston and Mansfield in Massachusetts all have various sized partially covered outdoor amphitheater venues. Something like this in Moncton would be a game changer!

I didn't get into anything specific in the survey, but I stressed the gateway towers is exactly what we need to Kickstart the waterfront. I also mentioned the lack of facilities, restrooms, anywheres to stop and get a coffee/snack/water bottle makes it less inviting/desirable.

I suggested in the winter, having Nordic ski tracks and proper lighting would be a great addition!

Not sure. No more than 10 years. I doubt Avenir Hearing would renew (too expensive). This is too bad. I rather like the sound of “Avenir Centre.”

You mean you don't want it to become the 3rd Slush Puppie Centre or 4th or 5th Rogers Arena ?

The public unfortunately has no details on the naming rights deal since it was done between ASM & Avenir. One thing I noticed is the private box that Avenir owns is almost never occupied. The first season the owner of Avenir Hearing was there often but sadly it sits empty most nights.

It honestly wouldnt shock me to see greenfoot make a play on it if the rights deal expired, although the buildings colour scheme creates some issues.

The Coin Cabinet is moving from their current home (former CIBC just across Main Street from the Avenir Centre) to a new location at 225 Lutz Street (not far away).

I wonder what this means for the former CIBC building. It is a sturdy and modern building in good repair. Is there a new tenant in the offing? Or, is redevelopment on the horizon? This is certainly a prime downtown location.

Ongoing sewer and underground services work. A precondition for the Ashford/Downing project.

I was by there the other day and saw they starting to install a big ass pipe of some kind.

Relocating power poles from the north side of Assomption near the courthouse and former jail site to the south side to accommodate the Ashford project.

I drove by the Main & Vaughan Harvey building yesterday for the first time in ages, and they're really making good progress. Although it's only 6 floors instead of 9-10, I have to say the building is starting to grow on me. In any event, it's a great improvement over what was there before.

There's still the Junction land across the street that can accommodate a good sized (taller) building. Hopefully the developers will step up to the plate with something prominent, so this corner will feel like a gateway into the downtown core. The interest rates continuing to drop doesn't hurt the construction industry either.

Even if its not as tall as we'd like, its a huge improvement compared to being welcomed into downtown with the EMC building which is something more out of a business park. It also nicely extends and connects downtown with the tide and boar brewing building.

Demo perhaps? It would fit the Ashford pattern of token attempt to lease ---> demolishment that the old jailhouse had.

I wonder when we will hear about what the developer of the tomato building has in mind for the land he bought on lutz street. They are working on the first floor out of four on the Quinn court apartment complex in riverview. Will this be the next project after that? He wanted to build a 10 floor apartment but only got to build 6 floors will he try and make a 10 story apartment here or maybe even bigger?

Update with Kevin Silliker, the city economic development officer on CBC Information Morning concerning the survey being conducted over the future of the downtown Moncton riverfront.

Silliker emphasized that the Riverfront Master Plan will encompass the whole riverfront from Hall's Creek westward to the Brenda Robertson Bridge.

The survey will close on Friday, at which point the responses will be collated and reviewed. Initial drawings and plans will be developed, which will then be reviewed at public hearings, and by city council in order to receive feedback. Final designs will then be generated with final approval by city council, and hopefully an inclusion in the 2026 capital budget. They expect the riverfront redevelopment will take place in segments, and will take five years to complete (2031).

He didn't say anything specific about a riverfront concert site, or, a relocation of the Hal Betts Sports Complex, but his special emphasis that the plan encompasses the whole riverfront, including the former dump site west of the Gunningsville Bridge I found to be intriguing.
