Deerfoot/Beddington/11st have Message Boards saying that construction begins today (June 27). Any idea what the scope of the project is. Hard to find any info

That'll help ease traffic on 64th towards Deerfoot by giving northbound and Beddington traffic another option. Then the spillover from McKnight to northbound Deerfoot will have better flow to avoid the McKnight/64/Deerfoot pinch point.

Thanks for the link.
Looks like nothing is planned to address the comical NB Deerfoot to WB Glenmore movement through the automall

Today I saw a lot of heavy machinery and trucks on the currently blocked off stretch of northbound 11 St NE, including an excavator digging at the embankment at the eastern end of the Beddington Trial overpass.

Appears to me that the contractor is doing one job at a time. They did the work at 64th. Then moved up to NB Beddington. Will probably tackle the SB after NB is done. McNight will probably be after that.

Global News is reporting that Maria Loop’s 33rd and 34th avenues will be turned into one way streets for a few block stretch due to construction in the area, but doesn’t explain what that construction is! And apparently the city is going to evaluate the success of the one ways once this construction is over at the end of the year. So is there actually construction or is this just an exercise in social manipulation on the part of city planners?

This was distributed to nearby residences and buisnesses:

We will be installing concrete bases and electrical conduits for new pedestrian signal lights, upgrading hydrant and water infrastructure, and doing road reconstruction.
This is from the project website:

The 4th inside lane (starting at Airport/96 Ave) is awarded through until between McKnight and 32 Ave, ultimately ending near 17 Ave. Beddington Interchange is slated to open July 31 24, and the additional lane (through to S of McKnight) as well as McKnight interchange modifications Oct 1 24.

I just came here to post the same thing.
Putting the additional lanes in the wide median of north Deerfoot makes sense - no?

So jealous of all the lane adding in Calgary. In Vancouver even suggesting such will get one crucified and the eco wackos here prefer idling congestion over free-flowing traffic. We are a Metro of soon 3 million people supported by 4-lane highways from the 70s.

Yeah - the lack of highway upgrades in the Lower Mainland over the last 60 years is really unbelievable. Even with the current widening of the TCH there are no general purpose lanes being added. This despite the fact the population has exploded over that time.

All the money spent on an additional southbound lane between Beddington and Airport Trail would be far better spent on further improvements between McKnight and 64 Ave, where the additional lane they've already added has ZERO impact in the PM rush.
Ok - that’s what I thought you were saying and I agree. I just wasn’t clear if you were also saying they shouldn’t be using the median for the additional lanes.

I will try it out the next time I need to go into the office in that area and will try to remember to let y’all know!

I used it a few days ago and it worked great. It's not on Google maps yet, so use it now before it gets busy!

Besides the short merge lanes into Beddington and Deerfoot it’s a great addition!
