Hollywood Central Hardware, 1636 N. Cherokee Avenue, a few doors down from Steve Boardner's. Wally White was the long time manager until the fire destroyed the store. It was a first class, customer friendly hardware store and a fixture in Hollywood for decades.

This was shot just north of Dockweiler Beach. I had it in my Surfridge Documentary but it's just a few shots where you see the Playa Del Rey bluffs with the houses in the background. The oil wells you see are the ones furthest south in Venice on what's now the Marina peninsula. Here's a link to the scene I uploaded to Youtube.

There's also Efrem Zimbalist Jr., Ray Danton, Ty Hardin, Andrew Duggan, John Dehner, Chad Everett, Cloris Leachman, Lesley Anne Warren (a young child) and Roy Roberts. Harold J. Stone is also in the film, a character actor you'd definitely recognize from dozens of movies and TV series. He got a Supporting Actor Golden Globe nomination for this movie. So did George Cukor (Director) and Glynis Johns (Best Actress). The film also did for Best Film - Drama.

The film is also in color, by the way.

Seems all the Orange Julius's (and Dairy Queen / Orange Julius locations) in the LA area are permanently closed.

I know the "secret recipe" but don't have the ingredients to make my own.

I loved Orange Julius as a kid, but haven't had one in many, many years, maybe decades. My mom used to take me to the Orange Julius that shared a parking lot with the Sears store at Laurel Canyon and Victory.

It was somewhere in this group of stores on the right side of this Google Street View:

All these years later, I can't recall how similar Orange Julius is to Orange Bang. I've read that Orange Julius is frothier, and has more of a vanilla flavor.

FWIW, Orange Bang can be found at various family-owned restaurants (typically, Greek-owned “Tommy's” knockoffs), and many 7/11s (where I buy one every few days).

FWIW, Orange Bang can be found at various family-owned restaurants (typically, Greek-owned “Tommy's” knockoffs), and many 7/11s (where I buy one every few days).

As a teen I would go to the Orange Julius in the car wash lot at California and Arroyo Pky in Pasadena (sorry, couldn't find a pic). We were under the impression that a real Orange Julius contained raw egg. Seems sketchy now, but those were different times.

I'm surprised such a large mid-century building was torn down. So what -pray tell- took its place? I drove around in the area (via the google-mobile) and I wasn't able to figure out the right spot.

There are two buildings there now known as the 1 Hotel. Restaurants on the bottom floor of each. One is Madeo's, an excellent Italian restaurant that used to be located at 8899 Beverly Boulevard, but due to a building remodel they closed there in early 2018 and reopened on Sunset in 2019.

It's tremendously cool if it was actually carved from a tree (but only if the tree had already been cut down )
or it's tremendously bad if it's made of fiberglass or some other material. (this only crossed my mind because it looks fake where the ONE meets the stump)
