I hear it! haha That's why I felt coming into the season I was kind of down on the team. Recent history tells us to be cautious. But they got me hooked again!

I'm a STH on year 10 or so now. It is sometimes hard to commit. I keep doing it because I remember the sadness back in 1995 when the final announcement came the team would be leaving. I was a kid and was devastated. IIRC it was Susan Thompson crying in the press conference while I was on summer vacation.

For that reason I continue to commit even though I talk shit on here and other places sometimes!

Usually around December is a good indication of where the team is at anyway.

After Christmas or the lead up to the bye-week or All-Star break, it's a crapshoot.

But, right now, let's enjoy the continued success we are having right now, especially tonight!

With a 7-4 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Jets are now 11-1-0, their best start ever, and good for 1st place in the NHL.

i was at TB game on Sunday and was not looking good being down 2-0 very early in game but boy did it get exciting after that! not a huge Stanley fan, but a huge hit, a fight and a goal was great to see from the big man. there was definitely a few questionable ref calls on goalie interference, missed penalties, but Jets got it done!

I am cautiously optimistic and understand that diversity will come but going 81 and 1 doesn't seem out of the question.

Every season players miss games for illness and injuries. The Jets are on a lucky streak right now it terms of player health. We will need to see how the team manages as those issues come up.

Reality is though the playoffs aren't based on the last six weeks of the season and every game played, every win and every loss has meaning. It isn't too likely to win most of your games in the first half of the season and then have a less great record in the second half, make the playoffs based largely on early season performance and then have playoff success.

Even though America is now a fascist nation, at least we can take solace, in the fact that our hockey team is great.

Jets defeat Utah 3-0, and advance to 12-1-0, 1st in the league.

The Winnipeg Jets are currently leading the Dallas Stars 4-0 at the end of the 2nd period. If the Jets hold on, they will improve to 14-1-0, which I believe is an all-time NHL record, after 15 games of play.

Amazing!

Great to see. Fantastic performances by both teams, and great to see Winnipeg fans come out in droves to both games.

However: when I read the Jets game summaries from the Canadian Press, they always seem to mention Jets attendance when it's low, but never mention numbers when it's high. The writer is a local guy named Jim Bender, who does free-lance work.

I suspect there's a segment of hockey fandom that would love to see the Jets fail in Winnipeg (some of them right here in town). Is this deliberate catering to that segment, or is it just the usual media slant towards negative stories?

Am I being paranoid, or has anyone else seen this?

Negative news sells much better than positive. And I think the expectation is sellouts from Winnipeg being in a Canadian market, the smallest arena in the league by a large margin, and having lost the team previously due to low attendance. So sellout = basic expectations, poor attendance = newsworthy.

Jim Bender use to be one of the sports reporters for the Winnipeg Sun before he retired around 2018.

He apparently does a lot of freelance work now for different media outlets, I wonder if the attendance is inserted / deleted by the editors of the media he is working for.

That could be it, too.

We've been down this road before, which was last season. How can anyone forget last year when it became so "bad" that Gary Bettman had to come by and visit the city and basically say to fans that the team isn't going anywhere anytime soon?

With so much negativity with the media lately, and not just only with sports in general, Winnipeg needs positivity for once, and right now, we are riding that wave.

Don't be surprised if the usual suspects in media aren't talking about us at all, especially Sportsnet.

It's going to be an interesting stretch for Jets coming up, playing the Rangers, Tampa and Florida on the road, then back to Winnipeg for another against Florida.

They've played Helle a lot lately, I wonder if Comrie is going to get one of these games, maybe against Tampa?

Mike McIntyre did a thing on Twitter recently and the Jets are up ~2k fans per game so far this year compared to same time last. And attendance increased around Christmas time last year. So hoping we're in for that same increase again this year.

I just wouldn't even worry about it. I glance over the topic when it's mentioned.
