https://www.durst.org/properties/

lol the dot for their Penn's Landing redevelopment isn't even on the right spot on their website. shows how much they really care about it

edit: https://www.durst.org/properties/piers-at-penn-s-landing
their page for the project also shows the wrong spot ??? do they even know where they're developing?

Well, those dots are the Piers @ Penns Landing Project. It's a yet to be determined project that involves the piers they acquired that are directly across from the Delaware Ave project (by Morgan's Pier) they dug the foundation for and just filled in when interest rates ticked higher. There used to be a marina in there that they dismantled.

So that does look like the correct spot on the map to me.

Reminds me of all the casino waterfront proposals back in the day! Ive learned living in Philly for 50 years, whatever gets proposed scale it back x10. The foxwoods, Disney I believe and Trump propsals were amazing. Imagine a Trump Tower anchoring the waterfront! Every major world class city has. Trump tower. Foxwoods got out of here and Trump said he would never to business in Philly again! We ended up with the wasteland box sugarhouse!

I would probably not live here if there was a trump tower in Philly.

Why? I cant see how that makes any sense! I hate to use you as an example but I really think this is the typical Philly mentality of why progress is so slow! From my understanding this mentality is also one of the major reasons why Phillys growth stunted and NYC took off as Philly wanted nthing to do with banking and finance or the regulations were very unfriendly to banking. Making a deal with the devil is what capitalism is all about! We suffer in some ways but in the end the rising tide raises all boats. The poorer communities suffer greatly because of the nimby and small town philly mentality!

It doesn't make any sense, to leave a city because of one building.
But that's TDS for you.

To be fair, measuring the worldliness of a city based on whether it has a Trump tower is equally if not more ridiculous.

Well just like everything he says, it was never going to happen anyway and would’ve been terrible for the waterfront. There are a million reasons Philly didn’t grow like New York did, none of them have to do with not wanting banking or finance or some weird obsession with having a trump tower? I’m certain this is understood and doesn’t need to be explained. I’m not even going to touch the weird trickle down economics suggestion

Can we not with this nonsense?

News at 11, politics is polarizing. It was poor judgment to think bringing up anything associated with that individual less than 2 weeks from a major election wouldn't ruffle some feathers, especially in a city located in the most prolific battleground state in the US.

Give it a rest.

Can we just — about Trump and get back to talking about the waterfront?

Getting back on subject, you should all read Philadelphia's Lost Waterfront by Harry Kyriakodis. It'll piss you off with the ending, but the stories in that book are fascinating.

I was kidding. I was making an equally ridiculous remark in response to the idea that Philly would be better if some idiot built a gawdy monument to himself here.

Weird take.

What I've learned over the years is that any city that relies on gimics for economic development, like casinos, is actually a dying city and thankfully Philadelphia is no longer in that boat. And the people who look to them as validation clearly don't understand what makes a city an economically dynamic place.

I think you missed my point! The idea is that Philly has and have always had a sort of anti-international development culture! Trump Tower was only used because I remember the outcry of the city against it as it related to waterfront development! Again, your response here seems to be a perfect example of the Philly mentality! Im sorry and don't mean to offend you, Ive lived in Philly for 50 years and am very familiar with our culture. To state a Trump Tower is some monument to an idiot is so missing the point of international type projects that would create a certain global appeal to the world! Whether you like it or not Trump Tower is a very powerful global brand in the realm of luxury hotels.

Ive observed the complaints of many commenters on this site and esp. related to the disappoint of the development choices and even scaled back or altered designs of projects here. I am also very disappointed and saddened this city fights tooth and nail at becoming a global city!

The Trump brand is indisputably a powerhouse brand in luxury hospitality!

How exactly? The Trump brand is indisputably a powerhouse brand in luxury hospitality! To have one on the waterfront, regardless of your political leanings, would almost assuredly had a massive positive impact in that area and the city!

There are some, and I am not one of these, who think that to be a "world class" city (and no one ever talks about other "classes"...), a city should have, among other status symbols:
- a bridge designed by Calatrava
- a skyscraper designed by SOM
- a Trump Tower

many other examples. To me, those things are often nice to have, but if every city had those just for the sake of having them, it's just keeping up with the Joneses.
That said, to reject any of these or the other status symbols just for the sake of rejecting them is petulant and contrarian.
Do what makes sense for the city.

Meh... I know this is hypothetical, but Philadelphia would benefit more from a St. Regis, JW Marriott, Edition, Peninsula, Langham, or Waldorf Astoria. Those are prestigious hospitality brands respected around the world.
