Wide Sidewalks and bike lanes on Washington St in front of the Capitol complete up to MLK & Courtland.

Love it. Atlanta has a long way to go, but she has been consistently expanding protected bike lanes for years now. I know we complain a lot, and there is miles and miles of bike lanes still needed, but we actually are ahead of a lot of our peer cities.

Via Philip Clinch, ATL DOT put out a solicitation to build a 0.4 mile section of the connector between the Beltline and the Silver Comet in NW Atlanta.

Some good news for the 10th/Monroe/Beltline from old Scrooge himself. They are putting lights up and while I was sorta driving (monitoring my car self driving in L2) so didn't get to look them over. Sorry for the poor pic but this is just a still from my Tesla Cam (obviously). But it appears they are all new setup and replacing the current lights. I'll try and run by (literally) Thursday and get some good pics and look it over.

Too bad they're not removing those awful powerlines.

10th street bridge project has started. There are construction barriers on the outside of one side of the bridge and crews have closed down one lane today.

There is a rendering for this, right? I want to say I remember seeing one on here not that long ago.

nobody really seems to care about these giant transmission lines that run down the main arterial streets. (even here on SSP, lol) most comments i've seen seem to take issue with the standard distribution poles that are basically on every street. personally, those don't bother me as much, outside the main business districts, as these massive 4+ story poles.

I hate them too, but I just dont see a world in which GA Power buries those. The smaller street poles seem to me like lower hanging fruit.

Starting on Page 75 shows best what the design will look like (the road markings section)

It is crazy they just plan to dump all that bike traffic onto the southern sidewalk on 10th heading towards West Midtown. Already there are way too many idiots riding on the sidewalk around midtown.

Also disappointing they didn't extend the two way cycle track on Williams all the way to 5th street, that might've helped reduce people cycling the wrong way down the Spring lanes, or using the sidewalk for that purpose.

I found this online. This could be an older rendering or a conceptual design.

Yeah unfortunately those are early concepts and it won't look anything like that. It will be a two-way cycle track on one side of the bridge, protected with concrete barriers painted with a colorful geometric pattern.
As for connectivity, two things:
-Georgia Tech will be building cycle tracks to link up to this project on Techwood and Williams
-The Portman development just north of this is already constructing a cycle track to connect to this so it extends further north up Williams

Atlanta to issue $120M in bonds to revamp Downtown streets

https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news...downtown-world-cup-120-million-bond.html
Quote:

Atlanta City Council approved an ordinance on Monday that requests the Atlanta Urban Redevelopment Agency to issue revenue bonds for road resurfacing and restriping, traffic signalization, lighting, sidewalk upgrades, wayfinding signage and related projects. It was sent quickly to Mayor Andre Dickens for his signature.

The vote comes after the council held the legislation for two weeks due to the desire of several councilmembers to make sure that pedestrian and cyclist upgrades would be completed in tandem with the roadwork. Atlanta Department of Transportation is grappling with a backlog of overdue projects — including some planned in the same area — that are already funded through the voter-approved Moving Atlanta Forward and Renew Atlanta infrastructure programs.

The final legislation budgets approximately $56 million from the new bond package for resurfacing about 25 miles of streets, compared to an earlier proposal that called for spending about $84 million on resurfacing about 32 miles of streets.

More than $20 million goes toward repairing nearly 14 miles of sidewalks and building 2 miles of new sidewalk. The remaining funds would cover up to 150 new streetlights, 200 intersection crosswalks and lane markings, street activations, navigational signage, traffic signal upgrades and a FIFA mobility plan, according to the legislation.

Wow, it's incredible the sense of urgency to spruce up the city in time that all these major events are causing. Atlanta is going to feel like a new city in a couple years.

Man, I hope it's only a couple. Juniper's complete street project has been going on for 15 years and it hasn't even been re-striped yet

Not dissimilar to the mad dash of improving the City as the Centennial Olympic Games approached. Will be a nice step forward, especially as there are numerous developments advancing across the Downtown area.

isn't re-striping the last thing they do with a street overhaul? I've noticed new curbs, sidewalks, drainage runoff infrastructure, lighting and landscaping. I suspect they'll finish all of the others thing before striping the length of the road. But I agree - what a ridiculous amount of time it's taken to get to this point!
