According to new signage on site this will be called Admiral's Corner Apartments. Personally I would of leaned heavily into the "unique" clock design with an horrible pun ... Military Time Place ... The Watchtower ... Northern Clock ... Clockwork North ... and so on ...

A tower crane base is on site now. I think the original construction management plan said this would be done without a crane. The boom will have to be coordinated with neighbouring cranes. A luffing jib crane would work well here.

Have they considered the risk of icicles forming and falling from the hanging clock and striking someone dead in the street? Also, since it points north, will it act as a sundial and will someone make markings across the street for it, lol?

I sat on the Design Advisory Committee for this meeting and yes, falling ice was a big topic that night. What they continually said was that the clock was just a placeholder for some sort of piece of art there. And that it might not necessarily look like that in the end.

Walked by this the other day, seems like the design has changed from original renderings (no more hanging clock, but still seems to have a clock incorporated in the design.)

Previous rendering:

What is the orange box sticking out from the side of the structure?

It is DOKA Branded.

My best guess based on their products is this acts as a storage bin for items the crane lifts up. It sticks out so the crane can just place items down on it instead of having to wait for workers to remove them. At most residential buildings they would use the flat roof where the building steps back.

I was surprised to see them lifting slabs of concrete up instead of pouring concrete walls in place. Is this common, and is there a reason they do it this way?

Can manufacture off-site. Also, They're probably not fully concrete - likely have insulation embedded in them.

Precast exterior walls are not uncommon. The quality managament is easier off-site so they typically provide a more precisely finished surface. This project is pouring the interior vertical walls but using precast for the exterior walls away from the streetside. The Mills project on spricng garden used precast all around the exterior.

You guessed right. This landing platform can be moved around from floor to floor as the delivery schedule requires to permit delivery of anything to the slabs via the site crane. They are typically pressure fit on the inside edge between two completed slabs.

That's cool. I checked my photo from this weekend and it was at the lower setting.
