The bigger issue we need to discuss with ETS is that even though this recent press release is positive, net overall usage is considerably down since 2013/14 (our peak) given our population growth and stagnant usage.

Its the same trend post pandemic across the nation, and further. Commuting patterns and frequency have changed for a good number of folks. While some have returned to office full time, others have remained working from home, or only hybrid in the office. This means its easier to afford to park downtown once or twice a week, or not need to come in at all.

You are correct overall usage in all majors really hasn't returned to pre-2020 levels which isn't surprising given that you still have 25-30% of your overall workforce still WFH/hybrid. I think we're getting close to establishing the new baseline in the in-office/hybrid/WFH arrangements for the most part.

Likely wouldn't make much difference. Working with soil is the difficult part. Bridges and superstructure is very often the easiest part because much of that structure you see is manufactured off site. When you work with soil and aggreggates, you have to work with cut/fill, settling and curing. 4-5 years is the minimums regarding the stuff.

Completely ignores both the lack of available trades and a person's desire to work those kind of shifts, especially in the city.

People don't like the cost now, they'll really dislike it when everything is built in premium time.

Work hours outside of the 9-5 are certainly becoming more common and more attractive for some; for Councillor Knacks proposal to happen this cannot be OT money, but rather a second (or third) shift.

And that's a completely meaningless assertion about hours. What makes you think tradespeople like working outside hours?

What are hours these days? Honestly?

There are plenty of jobs out there that are rotational shifts 8-4-12-8 etc. that could be attractive for some. It's not for everyone, but these kinds of 'works' happen in cities around the world at night and so it is certainly something to explore here for summer months considering how short our fair weather construction season is.
