Again, why? It's their money. Some people will have paid into the plan for 42 years by the time they are 60. Let them have their money, once again, at a vastly reduced amount. CPP contributions have been increasing in recent years too as it will provide a bigger part of a retired person's income.

As mentioned in other threads, we should be capping OAS long before we make any changes to CPP.

Why of course, it is like what happens at the federal level has nothing to do with the province!

It doesn't have any obvious relevance to the Provincial election. You seem to have problems following what the thread is about, maybe it's time to retire?

Surprised Eby didn't blame the Conservatives.

Quote:
Leaders condemn ’hateful rhetoric’ at Vancouver pro-Palestinian protest on Oct. 7

Political leaders are condemning what they describe as “hateful rhetoric” from a speaker at a pro-Palestinian rally in Vancouver who told the crowd that “we are Hezbollah and we are Hamas.”

Both groups are listed by Public Safety Canada as terrorist entities.

In videos circulated online, the unidentified masked woman led a crowd of hundreds at the Vancouver Art Gallery Monday night in chants of “death to Canada, death to the United States and death to Israel,” while some in the group burned Canadian flags.

New Oct 7 Leger poll gives NDP an 8 point swing from Sept 30. Now 5+ head vs +3 BCC. NDP is still strong ahead with 55+ but now ahead with 18-35

Thoughts on the debate:

-Surprised how dated the "people thinking of wanting to leave BC" line was. That was an issue 10-15 years ago. The vibe is now people wanting to stay, a similar, but way different sentiment and IMO more resonant

-Surprised, but not surprised, about the overall mendacity of the BC Cons. No costed platform? Still talking about Bonnie Henry? I get it - the pandemic took a lot out of us, but no one wants to really go back and rip off the bandaid spare for a few diehards. (paraphrasing Eby "i dont want to fire Bonnie Henry, I want to find more family doctors")

-A big drawback for the cons to get the libs/united to quit is for the Greens and NDP to connect them to the Christy Clark BC liberals. I suspect the NDP will get a lot of milage if they keep connecting rustad to the previous liberal govt ("hockey bags full of cash" )

I've voted for all sides of the spectrum, but the I really do think that the BC cons are a facebook page that somehow became a party

Nah, the federal Con candidates are from Facebook - the provincial ones crawled out of 4chan.

Really thought Sonia Furstenau has been the strongest candidate thus far.

I cannot stand Rustad and Eby. Rustad keeps throwing 🞵🞵🞵🞵 on the wall with no real coherent plan. Eby keeps getting baited into nonsense discussions surrounding mandates and climate change rather than outline what the NDP has done or plans to do for the common person.

At least the Greens are honest about digging us a further $8 billion in debt. The other two are just ignoring the cost of their pie in the sky promises. Eby was his usual annoying self, Rustad seemed like he was carved out of wood. If Adam Olsen had been Green leader (had he stayed on) they could have made a real breakthrough. Furstenau isn't dynamic enough.

It drives me crazy how easy the NDP could point to things like best GDP growth, highest wages, best credit rating more family doctors etc but instead is more focused on attacking Rustad. My strategy would be to compare BC to Alberta (Rustad's vision) if I wanted to demonstrate that the Conservative way is bad. It points to NDP successes while attacking Rustad at the same time.

It's unfortunate to say...the average person could care less if their politician is corrupt. They just want promises of a better time. This is how Doug Ford has maintained government despite being a total sideshow.

Eby spending time painting Rustad as a Climate Change denier is a waste of time. Climate change may be a real threat and the human species is probably on borrowed time, but propping this as an issue is a losing battle with many. More people are waking up to the fact that governments use the topic of "climate change" as a means to virtue signal and pander. If they really cared and wanted to take measures they would cease the Return-To-Office mandates which would immediately result in less greenhouse emissions.

Furstenau doing well is probably only good for the Conservatives. I doubt she picks up many voters from team blue and mostly just drains team orange voters.

The NDP saying how good things are in BC would be not reading the room. The GDP numbers might be better, but average people IMO aren't feeling it.

It will be interesting to see. She might have picked up some undecideds who just want to vote against the incumbent.

I really don't understand this narrative that Furstenau did well. The party is clearly a joke and she could not answer direct questions. What was her housing plan exactly? On health care she said a lot, but I have no clue what the community something something she said is and I'm not going to look it up. On every other issue she just pointed to the other two and said these two are bad.

Furstenau... oh please

Furstenau presented well, but at the end of the day people people are ready to light their hair on fire about the carbon tax and decriminalizing drugs, which the greens staunchly support and want to maintain/expand

Greens vow to expand safer supply of drugs in B.C.

Former British Columbia chief coroner Lisa Lapointe has emerged from retirement to throw her weight behind a B.C. Green Party campaign pledge to expand the safer supply of opioids and other drugs to deal with the province's deadly overdose crisis.

I get the feeling that drug decriminalization/safe supply is ideologically a lot like rent control. Protect the individual at all costs despite any broader effects to society as a whole.

Not a bad way to put it.

When is the last time somebody championed the rights of victims?
