[QUOTE=iguy;10296902]really really hoping this happens, but the nimbys already got this first tower chopped from 1100, and iirc a "traffic study" was going to have to be conducted in order to gauge how the buildout of the second tower would go? The deadly combo of nimbys and aldermanic prerogative is never to be underestimated in this city smh.[/

^was it the nimbys ?...I thought the devloeper just downsized because of market conditions...I mean it was approved to be a 2000ft building so not sure why nimby would suddenly not want an 1100ft tower at this location but who knows how these backroom dealings work with the developers and alderman.

Wasn’t it downsized due to the removal of the parking podium?

Not sure what the politics were surrounding the original approval of the Spire, but my understanding (which could be wrong) was that, as to the 400 Lakeshore proposal, certain members of the neighborhood complained about the traffic levels on water street due to the hotel component and the eventual buildout of DuSable Park, seeing the hotel and podium nixed and the park access plans altered.

That, and removing the hotel component.

I am a tourist from Canada that happened to pass by on the way to Navy Pier haha. I don't know on a side note, downtown is CRAZY busy. Like damn. Definitely on a post pandemic upswing.

Didn't they already do the foundation mat? Looks to me like that's actually the top of the parking garage

Caisson equipment has returned to the site, perhaps related to a pending permit with the City of Chicago for “revision of select caissons from belled to T.O. rock due to conditions encountered on site.”

Also, I spoke to two of the construction workers on the site. They have officially confirm. The building height will be 860 feet.

^ CTBUH shows that at 851 ft (259.4 m), it will be Chicago's 15th tallest. But if it's 860 ft (262.1 m) instead, it would be the 13th tallest by narrowly beating the 261.9 m Water Tower Place.

Related's marketing page currently shows 857' (and 72 floors) so maybe the construction worker was rounding to 860' https://www.relatedmidwest.com/400lakeshore

Also from another article quoted in January says 858', but maybe they misquoted or were off a foot. https://www.relatedmidwest.com/press-rel...ction-starting-400-lake-shore-iconic-two

^ A 1 ft discrepancy could sometimes be the result of conversions between meters and feet, followed by rounding. Anyway, it does sound like 851 ft (as stated in the thread title) is no longer correct. Not a huge height bump but an improvement nevertheless.
