I bet those built with cheap materials of the day won't last too long compared to the grand old dame.

You'll be amazed how low the appreciation for heritage structures has been for this city and province in general. No wonder we lost the old Hotel Vancouver, Birks building, etc. Even today, we are still losing lots of items of significant historical value, including Captain Cook's statue at Victoria's inner harbour, as well as the original intention to destroy the "Old Town" display at the Royal BC Museum, etc. Many think that we have lots to demolish and plenty remaining when we only have a handful. "Yet another forgettable Tudor" is a common theme coming from those with a disregard for the protection of historical structures intent on heritage destruction.

The Fairmont Building contributed a lot to the freedom of this nation, including taking care of shell-shocked soldiers during the Great War, and yet we are all diverted to "the atrocity of the First Nations people by the RCMP" only because this building served as an RCMP barrack for a number of years. That's utterly the dumbest excuse to create hate for something. Might as well disband the RCMP today if this organization is so "brutal".
