Sabrina Kauldhar, 30, of Toronto, has been arrested and charged in three separate killings — in Toronto, Hamilton and Niagara Falls. Investigators say they believe the Toronto victim was known to the accused, but that the other two were attacked randomly.

It's scary. Mental health issues very much are (not yet reported, but I'm going to take a wild guess they're at the root of this particular issue).

We're not set up at all to deal with the situation we already have now, and are certainly not ready to deal with any increase of these types of issues in the future.

Just a small correction : the territory served by the Montreal police has 2,004,000 people, so the rate is 1.30 (source), and its puts Montreal below Vancouver and Surrey.

The highest I could find was 24 about 10 years ago, and 24 again in 1995.

In recent years it's mostly hovered just below 20.

Note that this year there were six killings in one incident. So if you take out that outlier, Ottawa would be around 18 which is right about average for the 21st century in the city.
